Good idea we are always looking at ways to raise funds for the project .I will have a chat with the guys about it.

absolutely disgusting it should be a priority to bury war dead from any conflict and for it to
take two years from finding the remains is totally unacceptable.
I think that we as a forum obviously have an impact and are read should perhaps support these relatives with some sort of petition to get these overpaid under worked civil servants off their comfortable butts and out from behind their plush desks to
do what they should be doing. I am personally
going to contact my MP and bend his ear the more people who send their MP a letter might get something moving.
Disgusting in this day and age.

looking very good guys you are all to be commended on the work you are carrying out to return this lady to flying condition.
Mike E
what is that about two or three times what it is roughly worth ???.
Nice money if you can get it I suppose.

all power to Rex’s elbow an excellent display of dedication and professionalism in getting this
elderly lady back into the air. I note that in a previous post it shows FFD as with a college, one aircraft sold then promptly withdrawn and one burnt. What happened to the one withdrawn could its mortal remains be hidden away somewhere to one day appear to form the base for another project ???. stranger things have happened.
Mike E
Thanks for all the suggestions and leads guys greatly appreciated as always, and we knew the answers would be out there.
As previous the main reason is we are going to ground run our lady and hopefully she will move up and down a runway under her own steam. We don’t currently have the budget available to do anything else with her.Although we now have all her paperwork and 700’s etc from the day she left the factory until the day she arrived at Duxford and with only 1,247 hrs and 20 minutes out of an airframe life of 3000 hrs she has a lot of potential. You never know one day we may be able to take the big step to put her back into the air so we are being very carefull and cautious with everything we do.She ha sbeen completely fabric stripped as the bolts had not been treated when she had been recovered and had rusted and caused the fabric to balloon.the wood work is in excellent condition and we have managed to obtain a lot of new spares to support her operation at present its a matter of some of the hoses, spare main wheels and tyres and brake components such as air bags and ignitor plugs we need most of all if anyone knows to any that would be most helpfull.
If anyone lives in North Yorkshire and would like to come on board with the volunteer team putting her back live you will be most welcome.we already have an ex RAF sooty and a pilot who flew vampires and in particular flew for a short time the vintage pair one (not during the mid air crash season).
Currently our engine (believed zero hour and never fitted to an airframe )has been scoped and checked and has had all new hoses fitted and is almost ready for a dry run the next step after that being a wet test (not until its back into the airframe)
Any more info welcomed

XG743 restoration project
i think the main issues related to the complexity of the systems
as to if the Lightning can fly or not.Dont forget its two very high powered blow lamps
sitting one on top of the other.
from memory I was told many more years ago than I care to mention that it took
something like 200 hours of maintenance for every 1 flying hour in a Lightning .
It may have been an exaggeration but I can see it being not far off the mark having
had a close up view of the one at Tangmere and the one at Gatwick both teams are doing an excellent job
of getting their birds up and running albeit on the ground but even so the effort involved
and maintenance is not a million miles different to flight needs.
I know with our lady (T22 XG743) we basicaly have to get all her systems up and
running correctly as if she is flying even though the basic plan is to ground run and
fast taxi.

what was it doing there they did not operate as a routine out in those waters surely ??
Myanmar??
Sorry!!
make that naughty man go away he is talking about things in boxes again !!!!!:D:D:D:D:D
Bruce was there not a lot of stuff mixed in the containers with the Venom stuff at Bournemouth
I think now in Ireland ???.
There may be some spares with the guys at North Weald ,Atlantique airforce (or what ever they are this week).
Or the only other possible source who do have a good bit of stuff are the Norwegian Airforce Historic flight.
If they are interchangeable we still need one Bruce to replace our damaged ones.We have one new one if we cant get a
replacement we will have to rework what we have.

Or Burma…..? 😀
I think we should draw the line there Andy ???
I am getting the jitters again Ooh visions of green paint and DONT call me Shirley !!!!:cool:
Vampire A79-202(FB31) is missing the Starboard Flaps.
Do drawings still exist for these parts and if so, who do I need to contact?Alternatively, does anyone have a set for sale?

SA Aviation Museum
The guys who now run DH aviation have most of the DH drawings on the vampire but they are fairly expensive for copies.
You could also ask Bruce Gordon he has a fair bit of vampire stuff or may even know where to ask.
Sorry we only have T22/T55 stuff for our lady.

In that case if I understand it correct if a group of us got together to save this aircraft and applied for a permit to dig it could be granted. And therefore if we had the where withall we could dive strait in and recover the aircraft rather than waiting for years for tighar just to waffle and the aircraft go to dust.
serious thoughts guys we should look at perhaps raising some more awareness of this aircraft and then either shame tighar to pull their finger out finally and use some of all that money they have raised on projects instead of expenses.Or a web based group together and recover the aircraft.

@Firebex;- The ‘German’ a/c in 633 was a Proctor. I ended-up with some of it’s mortal remains – not much….!
There you go that confirms it 100% the Nord 1101 G-ABYV-ex F-OTAN-6 was NEVER in 633 squadron.
Thanks Snoopy.
I wish folks would get there facts right the owner has been offered all the information as has the seller and all the photographs but by not replying I assume is declining or playing at being an Ostrich.
As one of the previous owners I wish them well with there efforts to sell but perhaps correct information etc would value the aircraft more.

There is on eunder rebuild at Elvington dont know the mark but they may have parts for trade ??
