It was made clear all along that the aircraft would only be a viable flying exhibit for a few years – ten years at most, but that always sounded overly optimistic. The bit that makes me giggle is this notion that the aircraft will then be turned into some sort of educational exhibit. Yeah right. At this stage it’s hard to know where 558 will go when the flying stops. Duxford was supposed to be the final destination but that seems unlikely when they already have a Vulcan. At best, it would mean 558 languishing outside until Duxford got bored with it. Maybe the folks at Bruntingthorpe might take it? Or Coventry?
Good to see the Good Doctor is back to his old routine of issuing last-chance pleas for money. How come he’s still there? He was supposed to be stepping-down about a year ago wasn’t he?
I would think that an ideal place for the Vulcan would be ground running and fast taxi displays when she can no longer fly alongside Lusty Lindy (the victor) at Elvington tons of space and well in excess of 1 mile of runway.Who else has that much space to land and display her on ?.
Hi Thanks
The engine we need is actualy a GSO-480 as fitted to the Soko J20 Kraguj
The engine is also fitted to the UA66.
Only going off what we have been told for aircraft that carried the engine but a GO-480 would do.
But definately understand the DO27A was fitted with one not sure of other aircraft applications.
The aircraft is not flyable and for at best for the moment ground running if at all possible bu thats a long way off.
So condition of engine not important probably a time ex engine with no logs ideal.
I wonder if someone was using the Bournemouth Guppy CL44 as an engine ground run stand, to test recently worked on Tynes prior to being shipped. But that theory would only works if somewhere else in the world a CL44 needs serviceable engines!!!!!!!!.
Richard
Arent the Tynes used on other aircraft ?. I know Belfasts do. There is another CL44 lurking but cant for the life of me remember where I read it was.
If I may put ten pence worth in I was speaking to a man well in the know on various aircraft and we got into a discussion on the Guppy. He told me the following make up your own minds.I have no connection with CL44s or this aircraft its just something that came up in conversation.
He states the aircraft belongs to the same man who purchased the Belfasts one currently operating in Australia the other is having problems. He has also purchased a Transal for similar freight operations. The CL44 Tyne engines where sent away for overhaul and checking they came back but there had been a problem with the set up.I understand that there should now be at least three of the engines back into place. Also moves are afoot that the aircraft will be registered on the Phillipine register and arrangements are currently under way planning a ferry flight to Australia but a few of the countries on route are to say the least a little wary of an aircraft under a ferry permit on the Phillipine register. To quote he said ” Phillipine registration involves a form and a fat brown envelope” hence some reluctance to grant overflight. How much of this is 100% I am not sure but knowing the man concerned at least 50% is solid and the rest is somewhere near being accurate hope this helps.

Does anyone know who owns the HM14 Flying Fleas?
I have asked that a couple of times and got no reply ?.does anyone know ?.I think one of them was rebuilt by the prison ?.
what is there actually left worth salvaging from Milliom ?. I understand a lot of aircraft exhibits have gone back to their owners and a few of the wrecks such as HS748 and some others including the Canberra are being chopped up or already have been. The latter a little sad being such a historic aircraft but I understand at least its cockpit is being saved.
The paper article states that the liquidators are selling the aircraft at Milliom but is there anything left to buy and save ?.
Isnt this the one that Graham Adlam had in his storage shed for sale a few years ago ?.I seem to remember seeing it and a centre section and other bits when we collected a frame from him. (must be 3 years ago ?) or is it a different one ?.
If anyone needs one there is a nice ground running Packard Merlin for auction at Goodwood on Friday with Bonhams.
The guide is C £30 – £40k apparantly it was a pro rebuild in the states and runs like a dream. Merlin Pete knows the SP on this as he has ground run it !!!
Yep that would be my Friend Simon. I am based near Thirsk.
By the way forgot to mention my friend Simon Jonson owns the other aircraft and its based just up the road from me at Linton on Ouse.

Hi Aviator
Sorry for the delay I have just got out of hospital after a spell having my spine sorted in James Cook. Many thanks for the info I have sent you a PM yes very interested.
I have also found another Kraguj complete and potentialy airworthy even though she has not flown since 2001 she has been ground run regularily.
I cant say much more at this time except she is 30113 c/nO13.
Just getting the hammer out for my piggy bank.
What ever happened to XF914 I had a good few years as owner
before she moved on via one bearded and alusive Scottish gentleman
to Southern Parts but that was many, many years ago.She was complete and we ground ran her on a regular basis.
To NATO – a target!
Yes but to demonstrate how good they where Nato did not shoot them down they only threatened if they did not put them on the ground. Then of course they where easy targets .But that isnt sporting is it ??.
Even an F16 can hit something that isnt moving or on its own side !!!!!!!
On her way home ?? You’ve missed out the channel tunnel and the roads leading to the former Yugoslavia!!!
Thank you David did your parents never tell you that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit?.
Of course I meant its new home up here in Gods County with another of its breed.
What do you call a gathering of Kraguj I wonder ?.
If anyone sees something weird going up the A3,M25,M1,A1 on Thursday No you are not seeing things its the Kraguj on her way home !!!.
I will post some pics as soon as I can.
