I thought this short excert from the recent Yorkshire Air museum Newsletter maybe of interest.

`…and after 18 years the Phantom actually looks as if it will be transferred, thanks to the good offices of our colleagues at RAF Museum Hendon.

Ian Reed. Museum Director. Newsletter 71.

The Leeming Phantom I presume. A Tornado F3 aswell please Mr Reed.

    Ben

The Tornados are being kept systems alive with engine runs on a regular basis then every few months a test flight then they go into Hanger 3 and then they dont some out again or at least not as a Tornado. All the part sgo into storage and the shell goes to a company at Leeds I THINK IT IS?.
There where about 8 or 9 pairs of wings in the graveyard at the northern end of the runway.

Not sure about that because, beside J-20, Soko have had only one other piston engine project – Soko 522 http://sr.wikipedia.org/sr-el/%D0%90%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%BE%D0%BD_522. (they designed it to exploit a pile of overhauled P&W R1340 fmrYU got from USA during 1950s :))

I’d rather look similarity with constructions the Utva fabricated in Pancevo…

Looks a bit like a Harvard on steroids !!!!!

And here you are few more tips:

For possible help you can contact the Museum in Belgrade http://www.muzejrv.mod.gov.rs/pages_files/parter_files/partexpo/j20_files/j20.html – click on the upper/right „kontakt“ bar button.

For info regarding markings and color schemes of the exYU AF’s J-20 Kragujs, try via http://www.aeropoxy.netfirms.com/

… and a little bit off topic…see how good it looks even on a shelf J

Well, I think that’s all I can contribute your project at the moment… Good luck and keep inform us about progress.

    Cheers!

Thank you so much for your contribution,I wish I could understand the stuff in half of the articles you kindly have given links for.
I get the impression that the language may be something you are familiar with and wonder if you would be kind enough to look at some of the brochure/manual technical stuff as I have been led to understand that at least one of the Soko family of aircraft I understand High wing shares the same basic wings and tail assembly as the J20 I cant seem to make sense of it but if you or anyone else happens to stumble upon the link it would be greatly appreciated as it might just expand the possible spares sources for the aircraft. And yes I have already approached the museum in Belgrade as they have or control the storage of the majority of the Kraguj aircraft still in exsistance.

Indeed, the Soko Aviation Industry is almost a brown field now (speaking of plane production – and by the way, none of F16 or any other allies plane didn’t “help” for that happen ;-), but as far as I know J-20s were maintaned & overhauled by http://www.vzmoma.com/engleski/index.htm.
How about to start from there with your project?

Thank you I will make contact with them.

Was helping out on a Venom nose at Airbase that is being prepared to go on display.

It is (I think) missing it’s radios. Am I right in thinking they go in the two squarish hatches either side just aft of the seat? Don’t know if they are the same as a T.11’s and I don’t know if they are needed – will enquire.

    Roger Smith.

Hi Roger the two I removed this morning mount under the nose on the T11 and mount against the front bulkhead. They are TR1985 and TR1986 if that helps.

That will be a swiss Venom nose so not sure RAF equipment will fit?

Whilst on the subject of CF and Venoms, I dont suppose you have seen a spare top half of a “stubby” nose cone lying around? Looking for this to marry up with the bottom half I already have to go on VZ193 🙂

    Jon

Hi Jon speak to the guys at Dumfries and Galoway aviation museum they had a nose cone top I think when we visited to sort some Vampir estuff cant remember if it was two seat or single seat but might be worth giving them a bell.

Well this is where a descission needs to be made.
I’m all for threads like this and I’m glad that Firebex can put the bits on here and that others can benefit from it, but I and others have had to withdraw similar posts in the past, and when it was even put to the mods that we should have a non profit making ‘exchange’ or ‘diposals’ thread, it was kicked firmly out of town!

Right, who needs some instruments, mainly Spitfire I’m told!

Oh dear sorry have I started something ???

If there was a discussion about the matter I would support a none profit parts exchange . We all help each other out with photo’s copies of manuals and information some of it very technical. It may be a bit of a grey line but is there much difference ?.

Perhaps the moderators would support or consider a future discussion thread on a sensible level ?.

    What a shame.

Also dosen’t this sail awfully close to the strict forum advertising guidelines that some of us have been picked up on before?

Sorry if I am treading on a line somewhere but I know there are a few guys who post on here who have Vampires .I do not know exactly who they are from memory and rather than this stuff be ripped out by some one we removed it and I am enquiring if anyone can make use of it to contact me and I can pass it on to the owner etc.

I have not gone into specifics and neither have I posted fees, prices or anything that could be considered perhaps to be selling direct on this forum.

I do note an number of exchanges for folks asking for parts and offering to supply parts on this forum ?.

I am sure if I have done something wrong one of the moderators will correct me and I apologise in advance.

I think in the war years Middlesborough was in the old county of Yorkshire though.

Was it ? must have been a mistake as we are usualy a bit fussy about who we let in.

Two guys from Wakefield went to Spain on holiday .The waiter serving them said Oh you are English ?. The response “Nay Lad we are From Yorkshire !!!!”

sorry I couldnt resist sticking that one in !!!!!!

Excuse my curiosity Firebex, but how come the seller didn’t provide you with sufficient documentation or at least direct you on some technical support for the plane?

Technical support is hardly in existance any longer the soko factory is now a brown field site courtesy of an F16.Some manuals etc are available. And some limited information from the former Yugoslavia does exist

The aircraft was part of one batch that came into the country some time ago none of them particularily had any documentation. But with a major rebuild and coming under the LAA system a new set of paperwork will be raised for the aircraft starting from scratch (as I understand it ).I leave the paperwork minefield to the guys who do the surveys and inspection son the aircraft. The other two flying where in a similar situation as I understand it when they came into the country I think it was courtesy of Jim Pearce.

hope that answers your curiosity,I am learning a lot of stuff myself as I have only been involved with one aircraft to fly with sparse documentation before.

What was G-RADA is sitting at the back of one of the hangars at Biggin Hill and looks ok as it has been kept in the hangar out of the elements. Also Utva YU-DLG sits outside the same hangar.

(I think its Utva 66 or somthing along those lines)

Hi thanks I am only going off what an LAA licensed engineer has told me when I enquired about the aircraft at Biggin Hill.Apparantly she has some issues inside the engine bay and needs extensive work and a major overhaul before she could be considered for a permit to fly.

Some great pictures in the first link and boy do I like the nose art !!!!!!

Thanks guys keep them coming they will build up a great photo and reference data base that

other beside me my be able to benifit from. Sometimes photo’s solve

questions about drawings and text in manuals and can be invaluable.
