jets are not high on the agenda for Legends, and its not what I go legends for, so save it for somewhere else

Fair enough, but where? It ain’t never gonna happen though, the nearest we get to it is Kemble. It’s pretty sad that while folks are still obsessing about WWII aircraft there’s generations of people who have grown-up through the Cold War era, and yet the notion seems to be that history ended in 1945. Madness!

Just a quick one about jets guys.Might I poin tout that the first jet was flown pre ww2 and a lot of the technology used by the Yanks post war was based on German ww2 jet technology,The Sabre and its tail assembly being one example.I think that if an ME262 and a HE162 turned up and only did a flypast at DX that every warbird fan present would not be able to get the shutters going fast enough. And a few would be in raptures about it for at least 6 months and this forum would be jammed with photo’s.
But there again I am biased as Decent jets stopped being made in the early to mid 50’s.And the future of the jet was killed by the labour government who scrapped everything because they thought rockets would do everything.Thank god they did not scrap the Harrier but that was only because the US Military showed interest and eventualy placed large orders, but then we sold all rights to the future of the aircraft to the US. Oh the wonderfull british aircraft industry that once was

I was up there recently to collect a vampire Pod in the Car Park !!!!!.
Had a look around and pleased to see my old Vampire T11 WZ518 is looking so well.
Just one point guys the time line on the display board is confused I got her in 1972 when I worked at Woodford and was involved with delivering the other 31 or 32 (cant remember exactly). She went straight from Woodford a matter of a few miles to our workshop at the old 61 MU site at Handforth. When we lost the workshop a lot of the aircraft got dispersed some to Barton (piston Provost and Skeeter) And the Vampire moved temporarily to Pomona Dock to sit with the Comet briefly before moving to North East,

I would suggest that For the cost to produce per item the quantity that will have to be produced will not meet the demand and the paperwork and testing minefield will ensure the prices will be firmly in the healthy 3 figures region so new production will not I would think be viable for manufacturers who want to produce standard items in the many hundreds and thousands not 50 or 60 at a time.with a limited number of batch runs.

Cannon bay doors are wooden, and there are two of them. Again, I need to count uo and see what I have.

Which nose door, side or front?

    Bruce

    Hi Bruce

many thanks for your help the front one if you have it.

by the way on another thought you dont happen to have any Tiger moth bits lurking about do you ?.
Cabane struts and undercarriage main legs (again static only)

Canopy perspex – if you are sitting in the cockpit, you want the one on the left? If so, yes can help (just sold the other side!!)

Cannon bay panel – do you want both halves?

Door locks – possibly, once I have had a count up.

    Bruce

    Canopy perspex yes please .

Cannon and tank bay is the large one under the belly of the aircraft NOT the two cannon port covers.

Also just remembered a nose door would be handy.

Yes to use the old way of learning when you are sat in the cockpit you use”We have No Red Port left” so Port is left as you look forward and the nav light colour is red.

If you have it yes please and the other bits please PM what you want for them.

    Many thanks.

looks like a typical low fuel high level of fumes and major breakup and fire on impact.Whats the betting the boy was sitting towards the rear ?.

    Very sad indeed.

I quite agree, I spoke to a couple of local members & they were horrified.

Dont be silly its the RBL they dont even get the chance to decide where branch funds go to above £1,000 it all has to go to London and you have to beg to get anything back even for welfare !!!!!!.

    RBL Spitfire sale

At a meeting today we have been avised that the spitfire replica will definately be sold by Bonhams at Goodwood 17th September 2010.

You need to be sat down for the next part and if you are rebuilding a spitfire that is ALL aluminium get your insurance revised.

Apparantly Bonhams have put a valuation of between £40k and £60K on the aircraft and there apparantly will be a reserve (ppossibly £30k).Now either the guy forgot his white stick and his guide dog did the valuation or he was on something good with his lunch. If the latter I would like a few pints please.
Probably no one has yet looked at it and are just going off someones idea that does not have a clue about the aircraft and its structure.I think once someone with sense has a look that the estimated value will drop significantly
(£20k-£25k is probably a lot more realistic).
The suggested price is 50-100% more than it cost to build nearly 4 years ago and I thought things depreciated not appreciated ?.I know I am good but I dont paint pictures as well wish I did at that rate !!!! (perhaps I should start)

The only original Spitfire parts are in the cockpit, the wing tips are GRP the ailerons and elevators are GRP as is the rudder and the wing root fairings and the undercarriage doors. The fuselage frames are ply and the wings are ply ribs aluminium spars with aluminium skinning. The cowls are GRP as are the prop blades.Oh and I forgot some instruments and fittings are radioactive (the paint has degraded beyond minimum safe limits).

I am sorry but it is never going to be worth more than it cost to build as it is so easy to reproduce it unlike for example a genuine aircraft rebuild project based on an original aircraft with history.Or similar BUT all aluminium builds that will in time appreciate.

I cannot see any collectors or museums laying out the sort of money they are talking about plus Bonhams 15% plus VAT makes it very expensive and bearing in mind it is not built like the all GRP replicas to be sat outside on a plynth it needs to be kept under cover or the wooden element will suffer badly in time.

Perhaps they think someone with a vintage car and more money than sense will buy it for silly money to put on his lawn.Well I think they might be dissapointed.

I have said in a previous thread that on merit this decision was wrong, however as Lindy’s Lad has said there are many out there prepared to give it a good home- lets hope this is the case.

Incidently, can anyone tell me what construction methods were employed & a contact name for the builders please.

Yep I built her give me a pm if you want to know more.A lot of info on the web site I put up at the time http://www.myspace.com/rblspitfireproject

And yes it is the one that went to Tiverton in Devon.

    Hopefully 🙂

Will let you all know more after the 14th of this month, the SPT has a meeting with Mr Collett so im sure ill know then. I would happily put another team together to take care of the running of the Rod for mike but im not sure what his plans are 🙂

That makes two aircraft I worked on at Woodford 963 and 232 any good jobs going when I have run out of Spits and Tiger Moths ?.By heck he is honoured not everyone still calls him “Mr” if he still has his major interest in Kemble surprised he did not get it flown in there so they could try and keep it in the air ?.I dont suppose you could practicaly operate her out of Baggington be a bit tight I would think with a decent fuel load on board ??

Not forgetting sending the new guy for ‘mag drops’ and ‘a key for the wire lock’

    Regards

What about a box of glass screws and a very long stand to put the aircraft on ??
