    RE: Invader?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-12-01 AT 10:55 PM (GMT)]Gary flew Eddie Coventry’s first YAK 11 G-OYAK for a few years in the early 90’s, (91-94 from memory), in fact he carried out a large amount of Eddie’s conversion on to the YAK. I have somewhere some fantastic photograph’s and video of some of his displays, however UK show organisers didn’t find the YAK of great interest, so it didn’t get the bookings it deserved. North Weald, Wroughton and Earls Colne were the shows that stick in my mind. It’s a shame G-OYAK was sold before G-IYAK was completed as the pair of them together on the circuit would have been very enjoyable.

    RE: Invader?

I last saw the Invader stored at Manston in 93/94, not sure what’s happened to it now.
The white Harvard is now black with red trim, following an overhaul a few years ago. As far as I know Gary and his family still own the plane, but i’m not sure if he flies it any longer or not. He was good in a Harvard, but FANTASTIC in a YAK 11.

Looks an interesting project, best of luck. Are you rebuilding her in the UK?

This machine certainly did reach the UK. It was one of the Mustangs recovered from Israel by Robs Lamplough in the 70’s. It was later sold as a project and moved to a location in the North East of England.

If this is the standard to which the other OFMC machines are to be painted I can’t wait to see them next year. Does anyone know who painted them, or where they were done.

You’ve missed an obvious one, how about a YAK 11. 2 Seats, rarer, faster, more agile and much better looking than a Harvard, and even an enthusiastic team of volunteers with many years of experience to look after her. Now all that remains is to come up with the money, and persued Airshow organisers to book her. It’s got to be worth a thought!!!!

I doubt Steve Milnthorpe ‘gave up’ the restoration is a superb one, particularly when looking at what he started with. Wherever this machine ends up I think Steve can be very proud of his achievement.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-11-01 AT 10:41 PM (GMT)]It’s true that G-KAMM should be going to the US, but that’s not the only one underway with Hawkers at present. G-KAMM still has work to be done on her, and will be a real cracker when completed. The workmanship just gets better and better. She was however started prior to being sold to her American owner, having been started around the same time as AE977. Again another aircraft that was widely advertised in the UK.

    RE: Hurricane movements

The new TFC Hurricane is from a conversation I had last week progressing very well, and from the look of her earlier this year will be a very nice example. I was sad too see AE977 go to the states, but she was widely advertised for 3 years prior to being sold it’s not surprising that she went overseas. Roll on the next Hurricane to emerge from Hawker Restorations.
