    RE: FlugWerke 190’s

There was an article a little while ago in Flypast regarding the replica machines. I seem to recall that the problem is more to do with the number of replicas being built, in that anything over a certain number then is regarded as a production run therefore has to meet with type approval etc and the obvious expense that this will entail. I will attempt to dig out the article over the weekend and post some more.

My guess is then, that would make it XN500 a T3A

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-02-02 AT 08:05 AM (GMT)]I understood that one of the owners Tony Smith has a property in Florida and has taken the Spit over there to operate it for a while. He also has one of his Bucker Jungmeister over there as well. Interstingly the Real Aeroplane Company website mentions that Tony Smith will be displaying a Mustang in the UK this summer, but no mention as to which one, anyone know?

    RE: The NorthWeald bone yard

    What a sad sight!!!!!!

The Lincoln went to Sandtoft via North Coates together with the Provost
The Beech 18 went off to Bruntingthorpe to donate its engines to the project there. The B25 is still corroding away at North Weald.
The Sea Prince escaped to Bournmouth.
The Sea Vixen I believe was scrapped.

I’m going to look at the Happy North Weald pics now and keep away from the dark side.

Looks like its time I set up the scanner, I’ve got some great shots of TD248 and G-OYAK together. Shame they were sold before G-IYAK could join them.

Philo you are my hero, did you get any pics of the Corsair? I have very fond memories of the Wildcat and Corsair as I spent a lot of time on those machines a few years back. One day the museum will open and the aircraft will be seen again, with the obvious exception of the Corsair and Hellcat.

Yes it was exchanged for a Bristol F2b, however I wouldn’t describe the gentleman in question as a berk, he’s done some fantastic deals in the past, and has some very nice aircraft, besides which he still has a Bristol Fighter in his collection.

I believe that the second aircraft to wear the 41 squadron racing colours is the High back Mk XIV RN201 which is currently under rebuild.

With regard to the pic of TD248 above, was this taken at the last Wroughton Great Warbirds display in the 90’s, when she won best Warbird. More importantly where are the YAK 11 photo’s from the weekend?

    RE: Former WOGB airframes

I may be wrong but the only B25 outside when I last visited was the former Aces High and Southend Air Museum machine. I don’t think it was part of the WOGB collection.
Flying A Services still have their Seafire under rebuild, but the nature of some of the repairs needed meant that the first flight schedule was delayed by a considerable period of time. I’m sure it will eventually be finished but wether anybody gets to see it fly is another matter.
Doug Arnold never let his aircraft fly that much at displays, I guess you were lucky to have caught the Spitfires at Biggin Hill, they would however appear from time to time, so whether had he still been alive we would have seen any more of then I don’t know, however at least they wouldn’t have spent the last 9 years in containers.

It was the Wildcat, and the newly arrived Hellcat that were on display that day. Today only the Wildcat is left from this trio, anything else that may or may not be there bears a remarkable resemblance to a shipping container. Great shame!!!!!

Lovely aeroplane, saw it fly from Earls Colne to North Weald a few years back, would have seen it fly from Holland to the UK if she hadn’t developed a problem on the day, had to make do with the Wildcat instead.

G-AZSC is definately Black. I spoke to it’s owners as the rebuild progressed and Black was the colour specified.
