So, there was already a little “curiosity” in the selection process… i’d better understand if they’d had taken into consideration, say, an F-16, the Sh and the Rafale, for example, considering their “initial requirement for bidding”
Boeing was invited to bid, it declined, and in 1988 the Viper failed the minimum requirements for take off, landing, etc in the Swiss Airbases when it went (and lost) against the classical hornet, and thats the most probable reason why LM wasnt invited this time.
Its cheaper than the Eurofighter no question or show me one single contest in which the Typhoon has offered the better overall price.
Holland in 2001.
There are no available costs for South Korea or Singapour.
There are no official costs for Switzerland, the latest public available “news” state that the Gripen was the cheapest at roughly 3 billion Swiss Francs and the Typhoon was the costliest at 4 billion Swiss Francs, the Rafale was somewere in between.
In India the official declarations state that the costs are very similar.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLL
AFAIK, the 6 in the graph is not the Hornet. The Rafale News page just assume it to be so. The chart represents the demands of the Swiss evaluators.
Agree, if that 6.00 was the Swiss Hornet the entire chart would be farcical.
As I understand the model evaluated was the Gripen C/D. No AESA, no supercruise (IRST?).
The 2008 fligh tests were indeed with the CD, the 2009 evaluation had to be the NG, thats what the Swiss are acquiring.
Well I think the Hornet is a pretty good AtA aircraft. In addition these are quite same generation aircraft, and I think the evaluation in AtA was manly about interception.
I too thought that Typhoon and Rafale would score > 8 at the very least, but seems that reality is less grandiose than pr…Also between the two evaluation what major upgrade has the Typhoon had in AtA ? (BTW the same is true for Rafale too)
So the Typhon in 2008 was has good in ATA has the classical hornet? Strange…
But it was also has good in ATG?!
And the Gripen NG, with an AESA, supercruise, an IRST, etc his inferior to a classical Hornet?!!!
Complete bolocks, those charts either are complete fakes or they are made against some very strict (and reduced) sets.
I was meaning the Typhoon and Rafale. It might not have any affect but just wondering if it might, if so what it (or they) could be.
Probably wont have any effect in India.
so is Robert Wall on the same blog:
And SAAB. I think this kills the doubts.

It was always the JAS 39C/D which was on offer and there is no indication that this has changed. However, it might be possible that the Swedes may incorporate some NG elements as deliveries have been postponed due to the general delays in the selection process. I wouldn’t bet on that however as the budget is tight and there is probably little room for exchanging the C/D for the E/F (NG) without affecting the price of the package which would render the arguments somewhat useless.
The brochure on the Swiss MOD his of the NG and Bill Sweetmans his conviced that this his indeed the NG.
Cheers
@mrmalaya
But has the Gripen (any variant) been selected by the Swiss air force? It seems to be being implied here that it is an offer/entry to the competition, rather than the one selected and given the contract?
?!
It´s official they´ve chosen the Gripen and dumped the EADS and Dassault offers.
Cheers
Congratulations to SAAB and the Swiss Air Force. 🙂
Now, where´s Signatory?
The official press report is going right now, but its in German…

I have definitely lost all hope of seeing the Rafale sold abroad now…
Once again, the eval was just pointless.
TMor
Chill out, the Rafale has a fine chance in India (if it doesnt sell there, then “despair”, but not before).
Cheers
apparently swiss council decided in favor of the gripen;)
It seems so, another source:

But its still not official.
The Neue Zürcher Zeitung just reported that the Gripen won. Nothing official, so, lets wait.
