The A/C version Gripen can fly supersonic in dry thrust with a full load of AMRAAM’s, Sidewinders and a drop tank. Why shouldn’t the NG manage to fly M1.2 with the same load with 20% more thrust? Test pilots have noticed that the landing gear farings have actually contributed to overall aerodynamic performance.

Not, and by a long shot.

Replica + Typhoon Avoinics + Transferring funds and People from one or more UCAV programs = Win!

That, or a sixty billion euros program that will need twenty years to achieve IOC…
Just the kind of programs that a certain Gordon Brown loves. 😎

    I KNEW IT. 🙂
I just missed the platform… The Selex swashplate design is already flying for quite some time, and while i was expecting to see some photos of the Qinetiq Bac one eleven with an “active rotating thing”, instead it was on a Tornado.

Typhoons for Canada? It has slightly better chances than Iran being invited to the JSF team… 🙂

Unless there´s some cataclismic event in the JSF development, the RCAF will acquire the F-35A.

Is there ever a fighter pilot that isn’t? Hell, I’ll bet even Super Hornet pilots feel that way. :diablo:

Tell that to the Norwegian Viper jocks who participated on the first Wycombe Warrior 2007, or to the Viper, Hornet and Mirage F1 pilots who participated in Typhoon Meet , or to the Viper and Eagles pilots who regularly serve has sparring partners for the Raptor WIC (weapons instructor course).
Getting hammered is no fun at all.

One country 2 systems is familiar theme and can be applied to Falklands. So lease is over and UK hands Hong Kong it to China. Falklands is captured, so is Diego Garcia. I just can’t understand the logic as given.

Nice thinking on Off the shelf SLBM. If wishes were horses……

How about reading a history book?
Comparing the Falklands to Hong Kong is as ridiculous as it gets.

It’s pretty much a new radar, 1990s vintage.

    Yes it is.
Decent set, but its not “on par” with the latest AN/APG-68(V9).

I’m not sure if the Mirage 2000-5 Mk2 has Link 16, but in BVR between I’d place my money on the one that has Link 16.

Edit I read in a later post that planned Dash 5 upgrades included Topsight E and Datalink. Such a 2k would be just aweome in my opinion.

If they EAU Mirages can be upgraded with those, they would become the best used planes available on the aftermarket.

    Nic

The HAF Mirage 2000-5 mk2 are equiped with L-16 (they have a JTIDS module).
Anyone knows if the Thales data link (Ground-Air Transmit Receive (GATR)) that was suposed to be instaled in the UAE fas jet fleet (Dash-9 and Desert Falcons) was actually, well, “instaled”?

At the risk of getting the mirage 2000, F-16 mafia after me; I dare say the MiG-29SMT or MiG-29K will kick both their butts A2A, BVR/WVR. :diablo:

The fulcrum radar/missile outranges the F-16MLU as well as the Mirage 2000, one in terms of missiles (R77 vs Mica) and the other in terms of radar (Zhuk M vs Apg68).
WVR, even the basic fulcrum would be a pain for the m2k/f-16; the upgraded ones with the new OLS would be a notch ahead for the most part. Not to mention the legendary nose pointing ability and slow speed turning of the fulcrum.

A2G is another story, at least for the SMT.

    USS.

The F-16 MLU uses the AN/APG-66V2 not the AN/APG68.

In WVR the Block52+ has advantage because of the JHMCS.

The F-16 MLU M4/M5 are also using the JHMCS.

Well, this is one of the closes races I’ve seen in a while. Whoever wins its going to be by whisker!

No, its a done deal for quite some time, the Brasilians are using the competition to extract every single ounce of “blood” that they can from Dassault, but anything other than a Rafale win would be something close to a cataclismic shock.
Just for the records, Nelson Jobim, the Defense Minister has gone on a “lets criticise the USA” rampage for the last few weeks (wich is plain stupid), you dont hear much of it because those interviews are to local media and are in Portuguese.

But, i could got it all wrong… 🙂
    Lets wait.

    which is kind of weird…
is there any democracy thats works this way exept brazil?

Hmmmmm, weapons acquisitions with a very heavy political wrangling by the midle? Blimey! :diablo:

Remember what happened in Austria? And what is happening now in Switzerland? And the India Air Force MMRCA saga? And the Norwegian “the F-35A is cheaper to buy and operate than the Gripen” report?
And then there´s a certain USAF Tanker acquisition program… :p

    What’s you point???

    They have remade the Catapults.
IF the MB had the money the São Paulo could operate heavier aircrafts than what is generally assumed. A Rafale in ATA configuration (six AAM´s and two 1250L external tanks) is feasable.
The biggest problem is bring back capability.

Yeah and the F35 is flying since 2006. Everybody know that in this business you need 20% of time to make 80% of the job and 80% of the time to solve (or not) the remaining 20% which are mostly ingrat ****s.

Either way it’s a Gripen C MLU in which case it”d be already outdated when the Brazilian will be able to build it,
either way it’s a brand new design of a brand new plane in which case where are the funds? The home base to support years after years the whole system?

But SAAB tend to take the characteristic of the C when it suits them (low risks, low costs, light weight, easy to maintain, simple, proven) and the PPT characteristics of the NG for all the rest.

This is silly in the extreme. Tell me what are the diferences between the Gripen NG that SAAB presented in the power points and the Gripen Demo that is flying from 27 of last month? Oh, yes, NONE or very close to it.
That settles the “power point” story…
Your other allegations are, well… SAAB delivered the original Gripen six months behind schedule and ON BUDGET, a story that they have been repeating for… SIXTY YEARS…
