Let’s compare this bombastic future plans…
…with the real situation of the force now.
Lets compare the “real situation” of the USAF with any other Air Force in the planet?
Actually, to be a fair comparison, might has well compare the USAF with everyone else combined (minus the US Navy and Marine Corps)!
It seems you are right, I stand corrected.
Does the Typhoon now use AESA radars for it’s EW stuff?
Radar? You mean using its main radar has an offensive/Defensive EW asset?
If that was the question, the answer is no, the only “operational” fighter that i am aware that is described publicly has having such a capability is good old Dave (there are a few old slides from Boeing touting the APG-79 has having the potential to do such a role).
If the question is “does the Praetorian DASS uses active arrays in its ECM/EW suite” the answer is yes.
Cheers
The F-35 has the unique ability bring to bear high power sensors close to the targets so it could find targets for all sorts of artillery weapons. It could laser designate LG mortar rounds or LG excalibur. Or even they could make a LG TOW.
Or even they could make a submunition out of the SDB2, like by making a shorter version with smaller warhead and no tail kit. An LRPF could carry 3 or 4 of those.
Aint that a job for UAV´s?
The second part of the Swiss eval compared the systems in their 2015 config, which was 2 years ago. Unless there have been significant changes in the plans then it should still be relevant.
The 2008/2009 Swiss eval looked at a paper version of P1E, wich doesnt have a lot in common with what the Eurofighter consortium is testing and offering today. In other words, yes, the aircrafts that Kuwait will start receiving less than two years from now are a vastly diferent proposition than P1E, never mind the aircrafts that the Swiss actually tested.
Using the 2008/2009 Swiss Eval to evaluate the Gripen E (described in that document has “MS21”) will also means that it lags behind Typhoon P1E across the board… Wich is a bit ludicrious.
Just to remind, P1E, the “2015 Eurofighter” in that report, was implemented in late 2013 and had a full AIM-120/IRIST/AIM-132 capability, an integrated Litening pod, the EPIV and… nothing else.
The entire report is here:

AESA will definitely help — but will they fix the sensor fusion? And the EW suite? Currently Typhoon is far behind the Rafale, and Gripen NG in these important areas.
It is?
Do we have literature in the open public comparing the systems in those aircrafts wich is not a decade old?
Five Hundred Phoon´s delivered and production extended till 2023.
11 APRIL, 2017 SOURCE: FLIGHTGLOBAL.COM BY: BETH STEVENSON TURIN
Eurofighter has delivered to the Italian air force its 500th Typhoon, 14 years after it handed over the first example to the UK Royal Air Force. The aircraft will become operational at the end of April, following an acceptance flight by Eurofighter and a number of key assessments by the customer.
“The delivery of the 500th aircraft is a mark of the [programme’s] team spirit,” Volker Paltzo, chief executive of Eurofighter, said at a ceremony in Turin on 11 April, noting that its success reflects the strength of European industry.

EurofighterThe Italian air force has ordered a total of 96 Typhoons, including 82 single-seat fighters and 14 twin-seat trainers. All but one of the trainers have been handed over to the service, and the aircraft delivered on 11 April was its 74th single-seater.
The Eurofighter consortium delivered its first Typhoon in 2003, and handed over its 100th production aircraft – also to the UK – three years later.
During the 11 April ceremony, Eurofighter also made a symbolic “delivery” to Kuwait. The Gulf nation will receive its first Typhoon in the coming years, and to represent this commitment Eurofighter handed over two titanium keels and a flaperon.
Kuwait has 28 examples on order, including six trainers, and is the newest customer for the type. Including the aircraft for Kuwait, there are 599 Typhoons on order – all expected to be delivered by 2023 according to the current production schedule.
Production is already running at a reduced rate in order to balance the final scheduled deliveries, but Paltzo is hoping for further sales to extend manufacturing.

L-159 for Argentina?
https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/argentina-emerges-as-potential-l-159-customer-435866/
Why would the Fuerza Aerea Argentina acquire the L-159 when they have their own IA-63 Pampa II?
Replacement for the Pampa?
This Middle East conflict is turning into another Vietnam War, with Israel as being South Vietnam.
No, no “North Vietnam” Army is threatning to march on Telavive.
If you want an external historical equivalent, think on the European “Thirty Years War”, its a lot clooser than Vietnam.
Gased babies chocking to death is not “increadibly stupid” enough for you?! C’mon Sintra watch what you’re writting.
Thats not “incredibly stupid”, thats “murderous beyond belief”. My text was not meant to be a reflection on the morality of that particular SOB, my own opinion on the subject is that he´s indeed entirely responsable.
But yes, you are entirely correct, that part of my text was idiotic.
Don’t the Russians have S400s there? If they knew about the strike with an hour’s warning, why didn’t they just knock down the missiles?
Almost certainly because of one of two reasons (or most probably the two together), a) Radar Horizon, b) political reasons.
A) The distances are such that the radar horizon for the S400 battery would be around 2.2 km´s of altitude, anything flying bellow that altitude is invisible (earth curvature), unless it got targeting from a third party sensor
B) They were entirely aware that the strike was a political point, no long last effects coming out of it, the USA wont go after Assad (unless the chap goes into “incredibly stupid” mode), in two or three weeks time this entire episode will be gone, no real reason to actually engage American Hardware.
I am terribly tempted to respond but I will resist! 😎
🙂
I didn’t get the memo when sintra was appointed the master of moral high ground on this forum in replacement of swerve.
Thats the problem with free speech
So now we wait and see if a president who was elected to deescalate with Russia and Syria, is going to start a war with Russia in Syria. If we use democracy’s historic record, it does fit.
If you believe for a second that Trump was elected to “deescalate with Russia and Syria”, you have a massive perception problem.
Usually, the people get the exact opposite of what they vote for.
YES, vote should be banned! Its so obviously useless… Just look, Democracies have such an awfull historic record on acountability and taking care of their population by comparison with… everyone else… dont they?
Life its, oh so much better in any casual dictatorship, or a single party popular republic, or a good old fashioned theocracy… Who wants to vote and get a country like, dont know, Canada (only frozen Bears and Mooses), New Zealand (Mordor and Orcs and worse, Sir Peter Jackson), Denmark (awfull Cheese) and so on…
STRONQ North Korea forever!
The JSM missile weighs around 400kg AFAIK. Presumably Saab and Diehl between themselves are roughly at the same technology level as Kongsberg et al? Or perhaps the high weight is because they want to keep the “huge” warhead of 200kg?
The NSM/JSM were an entirely new design, i doubt that SAAB will have that luxury (costs).
Cheers
Officially they are a candidate however realistically they cannot compete against the F-35 on capabilities, and against the Gripen NG on cost…
Let me straight this one 😀
