I doubt this is going to happen — OTOH Poland does spend quite a lot on defence, and the current government is also very much focused on ToT and job creation, seems that’s why they cancelled the chopper deal?
One alternative to assembling new a/c would be to buy second-hand F-16 and refurbirsh them in Poland.
On verra.
I think that the Poles are pretty much doing some “Swedish Pressure” on LM and the FMS in order to lower acquisition costs…
What objection would the USG have? They were amenable to it in the past – “There is nothing on our side, no principle which bars that on our side, Indian participation in the Joint Strike Fighter.” – Ashton Carter.
And this was in 2011, bilateral relations have progressed quite a bit since then. The Pentagon (particularly the PACOM) will certainly be championing such a deal.
The US Government have repeatedly blocked Lockheed Martin from offering the F-35 to the Indian Air Force, it was never offered in any of the multiple RFI´s that the IAF sent. There´s a reason why LM is offering a ten ton plus Viper in this recent “single engine made in India saga” and not Dave A, the reason being it was blocked from doing so by the State Dpt/Pentagon (choose).
The MiG-29K is not in the running. From the news that’s trickling out, both official and unofficial, the IN is facing some very serious issues with the aircraft.
Thanks, i wasnt aware of that.
The Super Hornet will be hard pressed to compete with the Rafale M given the commonality factor. The only question is whether the elevators on the two carriers can accommodate the Rafale’s non-folding wings.
The F-35 is the only US aircraft that has a viable shot at the contract.
Why?
WRT to the last RFI issued by the IN in 2010 –
Indian Navy Fighter RFI: Lockheed To Respond With Both F-35B & C
Did LM ever answered that particular RFI?
You should note that the respective former service chiefs are advocating for an open and fair competition and not for the continuation of the F-35 sole source acquisition.
Exactly
Isn’t AESA Vixen pretty much same as Raven ES-05?
Not quite, Selex Vixen is a family of Radars, one of them was known in the past has Selex Vixen 1000 Raven, today is called Raven ES-05.
The 2017 Russian Defense Budget is out, according to Janes it got a massive slash of almost 26% by comparison with 2016!
If so expect salami slice cuts across the board, it will be “interesting” to see the efect on the VVS.
The RFI doesn’t mention a twin engine requirement. Quite deliberately. The Gripen M’s prospects are still bleak but the F-35, I suspect, is very much in the running.
I would be nothing short of amazed if Lockheed was given the green light by the US Government to offer “Dave C” into this. This seems a cat fight between the Rafale M, the Mig-29K and the Super Hornet.
One question, can the INS Vikrant deal with something like the SH (or the F-35C) at full load?
^ That’s every chief of air staff of the RCAF in the last 20 years (i.e since 1997).
Impressive!
Russia, UAE to collaborate on 5th-generation fighter – UPI.com
http://www.upi.com › Defense News
Feb 20, 2017 – The new light combat aircraft to be developed jointly by Russia and the United Arab Emirates is expected to be based on the legacy MiG-29.Russia, UAE To Develop Light Fighter Based on MiG-29 Jet: IDEX …
https://defence.pk › Pakistan Defence Forum › Country Watch › Arab Defence Forum
Or in another words, the UAE is doing precisely what it did to EADS (remember the MAKO?), Dassault, Eurofighter and a few others. With the UAE untill a contract is signed and the first airframes are being delivered the chances are that the entire discussion will end in zero. This entire episode smells “lets put pressure on the Americans in order to get the F-35A” by some fifty miles.
Sukhoi did it by morphing SU-30 into PAK-FA.
MiG can do it by morphing MiG-29 into a Gen 5 for UAE.
There´s not much more of the SU-30 on the PAK-FA with the exception of upgraded AL-31´s in the form of the AL-41F, and that for the first few dozens of aircrafts. And the way that the Mig-29 can be turned into a Fifth gen aircraft its be design an entirely new one.
The real question is “Are there any deep pocket partners left who can help Dassaut or Saab defray the development costs?” Sukhoi, Lockeed, BAE and MiG did.
Mig did “zilch”… And yes, unless you believe that sudenly the ADLA, and the Luftwaffe, and the Flygvapnet, etc, are all going to acquire entirely foreign hardware, the pockets of severall European MODs do seem to be big enough to fund the development of such equipment, several of them have bigger pockets than the likes of Turkey or Korea.
Yes, a light fighter.. pretty much the smallest and lightest concept of all..
Far from it, the single engined version of the FS2020 its actually quite a bit bigger than a F-35A or B. Its also longer than a the latest designs for the KFX, with around the same span, and its quite a bit bigger than severall of the TAI TFX conceptual designs.
On the clean weight bit, let me express my doubts, those “10 tons” seems a bit too optimistic for an airframe of such dimensions.
comparing it to legacy light fighters like F-5 or MiG-21 would be exactly as pointless as claiming the Gripen is not a light fighter because it is 50% heavier than P-47 Thunderbolt.
I´ve directly compared with the aircrafts that have identical dimensions, more specificaly two twin engined Eurocanards and the F-35A
Well, the empty weight is said 10 ton, the J-10 is 10 ton, the F-35 is 14 ton. So, again, which one you said it was comparable to?
Its longer than than an F-35A, it has a bigger wing than an F-35A and it has three internal bays…
The FS2020 is projected to have empty weight of 10 tons.. That is J-10-class, pretty much a light fighter to me..
An aircraft that weights the same has a Rafale, carries one more ton of fuel internaly than a Typhoon, with the size of a F-4 Phantom/Tornado GR4, three internal bays and with a F-119 engine is a “light fighter”?
There were two FS2020 concepts, a single engine (the one above) equiped with a “F-119 class Turbofan”, and another twin engined, mit heavier with two “F-414/EJ200”.

Either concept would be directly comparable to the F-35 or the Phoon, not the Gripen or even the J-10.
Cheers
There´s an ungodly number of descriptions of “FCAS” in the internet!

i think the ranges are so short so they use land launched Ashm,
best would be artillery shells with a seeker
Thats precisely what they are doing, RBS15 SFIII, plus 130 mm guns backed by short range Eurospike-ER missiles.
Dismissing facts that you do not like on the grounds that they are hearsay is a typical trick adopted by some posters. Most of the world’s warships will have a copy of ‘Jane’s Fighting Ships’ – a world-renowned reference book which (since its reference section contains no direct quotes) is entirely made up of hearsay – facts gathered by the editor and his assistants and not directly attributed to any specific individual.
But whether you like it or not, Sweden has developed and is building the proximity fuze (and other hardware) for all Meteor missiles.
Meteor production has been under way for several years, and all the developer nations will be receiving their missiles at the rate that has been agreed, but none will be making statements about how many they currently have and what portion of their fighter fleet are cleared to carry the weapon. Such is the case when any new weapon enters service with any air force. However, Sweden did declare several years ago that already had enough Meteor hardware to give it the option of deploying a sufficient number to change the military balance over the Baltic in any emergency.
Just a point, MS20, the software block that brings Meteor capability was being delivered to aircrafts in April last year and it was suposed to be finished “by summer”, if past experience with SAAB holds, then the full Flygvapnet six Gripen sqn´s should be fielding the missile by now.
