Hmmm i thought some expected to offer it to India?

I have my doubts (i´ve shared them in the apropriate topic) that will happen in the next few years, but i also admited that i may be wrong. But we will see if i am right or wrong in the next months, if Dave B or C are offered to the Indian Navy, i was wrong, if the only American offer is the SH, well…

sigh… and why did LM not offer the F-35A?

Because the F-35A is only offered to a group of nations that are allied (or pretty much alligned) with the USA, and at least for now, delivering that particular aircraft to an airforce who happens to work with some chaps called “Sukhoi” is a big “no-no”?

    Cheers

LIMA 2017: MRCA contenders jockey for pole position

    https://www.shephardmedia.com/news/defence-notes/lima-2017-mrca-contenders-jockey-pole-position/

Why is not LM in this race with the F-35?

If they are really considering the Rafale and Typhoon, they should IMHO also be able to consider the F-35, which is already in the same price range.

It can’t be because they will avoid US a/c for political reasons because SH seems to be in the race.

    So what is the reason?

Because the F-35A was not offered by LM?

Why do people insist on bringing up the Russian economy when they know so little about the subject..

The entire world economy is stagnating. Recession is a subjective term. (2 quarters of negative GDP growth) But Russia’s recession has no baring on its comparative health to any other economy. Russia had a business cycle recession. Nothing is more healthy and necessary for a capitalist economy than a business cycle recession.

Despite Russia’s business cycle recession, it still is the lowest debt country in the G20. It still is a net exporter with no net debt. It still has tons of forex and gold.

Canada on the other hand, had no recession at all. But guess what.. Canada is a trade deficit country and one of the most indebted governments and public in the western world. Canada has no gold and almost no army.

    so whos better off ?

Canada, and that should be an obvious answer.
Unless the metric used has absolutely no bearing on what should the main purpose of a state economy, the well being of its population…

We’re talking about PAK-FA not Su-27. PAK-FA with bigger wings and more powerful engines can easily supercruise at 2000+km/h like MiG-31. PAK-FA can also climb and defend itself much better and can climb at 384 m/s. See around 8 minute mark.

“Easily supercruise at 2000+km/h like MIG-31”

    ?! Thats news!

Do you have any source stating that the MiG-31 can fly at “2000 km/h+” without using reheat?

I don’t recall anything specific in the press. Perhaps you could share. Richard Aboulafia is really an analyst rather than a primary source.

Yes, off course that Aboulafia is not a primary source, and actually he sometimes gets things pretty mixed up. It was a few articles in AW and Flight a few years ago, i´ll have to dig them out.

The IAF has never expressed any formal interest in the F-35 to date.

And if i am not mistaken, the severall RFI´s sent to LM didnt specify the Viper either. It was LM choice to answer to the IAF with the Viper.

    That’s incorrect.

Actually it is correct, both the US Government and LM have made presentations in the Midle East, the thing is those presentations didnt include classified data.

    http://www.tacticalreport.com/view_news/UAE:-Sheikh-Mohammad-expects-F-35-deal-next-year/5143

I can remember a few years ago a LM slide with some five or six “Gulf” potential clients.

If LM doesn’t respond its probably not been cleared by the US DoD to make an offer in line with the customer’s request.

Hum? Thats precisely what i´ve wrote! LM didnt answer with the F-35 to the IAF, and i have the distinct feeling that it wont answer to the IN, precisely because of that. There´s no way in hell that the DOD would allow that the JSF would be cleared to the level that the IAF requested.
The idea of having HAL, the chaps who build the SU-30MKI and are working with Sukhoi on the FGFA, building “Dave´s”… Not likely.

Well, in a few months we´ll see if i am wrong.

Air Force seeks proposals for light-attack experiment that could feed rapid acquisition program

    Light jets?

If “Inside Defense” is right the AT-6, the Tucano, the Bronco and the IOMAX are out.
That leaves the Scorpion, the light attack version of the M346 and the KAI FA-50 (of course that with this last one, one might ask “why dont we just buy 300 more Vipers”).

The IAF has never sent RFI for the F-35 and LM has never been blocked by the Pentagon or State Dept (where did you get that info from)?

From severall defense press organisations, and severall analysts including Richard Aboulafia.

If anything, the Pentagon made it explicitly clear that they were open to including India in the JSF consortium (I’ve posted the quote by Ashton Carter).

I have severall identical quotes for Brasil, and when the FAB asked specificaly for the F-35A in the FX-2, LM answer was a warmed over F-16. I suspect the same is happening here.

They offered the F-16 because the line is going defunct, nobody else has any serious interest in the aircraft post 2020, and they see the opportunity to milk it for another decade (instead of writing off the infrastructure) if they can get India to buy in.

Highly doubtfull. The reason why almost certainly the F-35A was not offered to the IAF twice in a row was because the State Dpt looked at the MRCA and this new “Made in India” and what was asked in terms of technological transfer was entirely out of order.

Also made a presentation to the MoD with clearance from the Pentagon though it hadn’t come before the State Dept yet (who have no reason to block it).

US offers F35 to India as India-US Defence Cooperation grows

Eh, F-35A presentations by LM have been done to everybody and its dog, including the Brasilians, the Saudis, the UAE, and so on.

But, well, soon enough we´ll know wich of us is correct, if indeed LM officially offers Dave, then you are correct, if not, dont make a mistake, i am correct and it was indeed blocked at the Congress/State Dpt.

    Cheers

    2015 was a 21% increase.
    2016 was a neutral.

So it is basically going to be the same as 2014, before the price of oil crashed.

Slightly bigger than in 2014 actually.

Bellum chart in the post above describes the situation very well, the main story seems to be, not an actuall cut of a massive 26% but a much smaller one and the fact that the Defense budget stoped growing.

This is quite misleading news, because in to the 2016 budget was injected a very large early repayment of defense industry loans for 2017 and 2018. Its worth well over 700 billion rubles. If those payments were part of the 2017 and 2018 budgets as originally intended, then the budget level from 2015 to 2018 would be balanced. Following picture demonstrates this quite clearly:

    Thanks Bellum

That chart highlights your point very well.
