Don’t forget that a VLO platform will severely hamper the active homeing range of missiles just like it does for ground and airborne radars.

Be prepared for that 16 mile range to turn to 2-3.

Then throw in the active jamming from the -81 and you are likely to see some serious physical damage to the seeker.

Physical damage to the missile seeker? By the AN/APG-81?!
If the AN/APG-81 can inflict physical damage to an Aster seeker, then AMDR will boil, cook and serve on a plate “a l’oignon” an entire sqn of Flankers plus the unfortunate band of wild geeses that might be passing on a 100 miles radii round an AB flight III.

Always wondered how and if one could jettison those over wing tanks….? Possible, impossible , flying inverted…,what was the deal there ?

The over wing tanks were very rarely used and their job was “ferry” not combat. They could be “dropped” in level flight (not inverted) at very specific speeds and altitude, but the most important part was that they couldn’t have absolutely no fuel on them, the jettison was done with explosives…

Off topic. Is it possible for Eurofighter have over-the-wing pylons for drop tanks? It will free up 2 heavy hardpoints under the wings for the 2000lb laser bombs instead of drop tanks. Just to have 5 heavy hardpoints like the Rafale.

If you are thinking of drop tanks like the ones on the old BAC Lightning the answer is no, if you are thinking on CFT’s like the ones on the Viper 50/52/60, the answer is yes. The T3A Phoon’s are already plumbed for it, now it’s a question of whatever customer who’s interested to sign a contract with Eurofighter for the final development and acquisition of those CFT’s.

What evidence do you have that they are DSI?!!!!!

They are DSI made with composites made of aluminium and an infinite number of Mig35’s… And the PLAAF is in crisis!

    I’ll get me hat…

Given the rising equipment costs that 2% GDP hardly represents sufficient to maintain what we have.

“Maintain what we have” is vastly better than every major review since 1990 Options for Change.
Very recently the RAF was looking at a full complement of 5.5 fast jet sqn’s around 2025 (and another 0.5 sqn for the RN).

Double no, they are all different and not hi-hi.

If i recall correctly there´s a “air force mission profile” for dave A, a “navy mission profile” for dave C and a “marine mission profile” for Dave B and not one of them ever goes bellow 15K, so either i recall incorrectly or i am correct.

    Cheers

That is incorrect, the F-35 range specifications are not hi-hi. They were altered from what was believed to be hi-lo-lo-hi to some mix of high, med,

    No

More range than the F/A-18E is pitiful now?
    http://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/slide08.gif

Careful there, look at the mission profile in that image, “Hi-LO-LO-HI”. The known combat radii of any JSF version was always presented in a “HI-HI” flight profile, a very diferent thing.

Thankfully the Boeing presentations to the FAB have the actual combat radii of the “Super Slow” with three externals in a “HI-HI” profile.

    I´ll be da***d!! Oo
Its true, its the first time that the UK defense budget will have an actual increase in (how many?) decades?!
Boeing might has well start building a few P-8´s…

not heard of rumours that Rafale, Eurofighter beat F-22 in BVR
, all kill claim again F-22 has been WVR

    ?!

You have not been paying attention then.

    http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?48998-Eurofighter-s-amp-F-A-22-radar-rumours-at-Nills-AFB-AWST

The first serious allegations about BVR locks/tracks/kills of Raptors by Typhoons go far has 2005, together with the first photos of the two aircrafts on the same tarmac. The claims went has far as claiming a lock at “80 miles/Km´s” (depending on the rumour source) and a Raptor pilot yelling at the intercom that its aircraft had been “de stealthfied”, those allegations got attention (and articles) by Aviation Week and Flight Global and were so “serious” that there was an denial by the USAF.

I am quoting someone that was rumoured to be a professional journalist (he denies being “that” journo 🙂 ) with a long career in Key Publishing:

Good job that it never happened.

Good job that Nellis Raptors only fly with augmentors.

Good job that they were flying with big F-16 type non stealthy tanks when the incident didn’t happen.

Detection at 80 miles would otherwise have been embarrassing…..

Along the years, we have been receiving a trickle of photos of Raptor kill marks on Typhoons, a Growler pilot candidly saying that is Raptor “kill mark” was made with a simulated AIM-120 shot, etc, etc. The oposite is also true, there quite a number of rumours of Raptors killing Typhoons/Rafale´s in BVR.

    Cheers

UMS is a fundry a tool for Thales and Airbus

Thales R&D use it to his own products, doesn’t share it with competitors, especially when its classified as X band airborn mmics and not general purpose chips !

Look, Catia design tool CAD is used by boeing and airbus, it doesn’t share final product !

Do i really have to remind you that a few posts ago you didnt knew what UMS was and thought that Selex was buying its MMICS/TRM´s in the USA?
The development work on MMICS/TRM´s is done by UMS mainly at Villebon, the production center is at Ulm. The development work of MMICS/TRM´s is shared (mainly) between France and Germany, the exact arragements between the main shareholders are not public.
If you want to learn there are a few chaps around here who have quite a lot of knowledge, talk with them, start with the likes of Hallowene, Kovy, Tmor for your favorite aircraft and then Scorps, Jwcook and BIO for the aircraft of this topic.
On the MMICS/TRM´s/Gaas/GaN development in Europe there exists quite a lot of information on the net, start your search with “Project Korrigan”.
If you just want to troll around, find yourself another topic.

    eads germany?

Gan mmc on airborne X band doppler aren’t Gan for generally purpose witch fundry UMS or RF Micro sells to clients!

UMS Is a consortium owned half by EADS/Airbus Germany and half by THALES, every Gaas mmic that’s used on the Rafale radar is UMS, the future GAAN based EW hardware planned for Rafale also uses UMS mmics. Those are the exact same mmics both gaas and gaan that EADS/Airbus Germany proposes on their range of military radar’s, that includes euro radar.
There’s no formal plans for a E captor Gaan based antenna.

it seems gaas mmics US builder , manufactoring for selex doesn’t wanna sell to europeans Gan technologies !

so , selex would have very expansive upgrade to get new partner !

    Oh look a troll!
We’ve been needing one in this topic like… tooth pains…
    A) There are two foundry’s in Europe who already mass produce GAAN mmics, one of them, the biggest, UMS, is fifty percent owned by EADS Germany, the chaps who are providing gaas (together with Selex) mmics for Euroradar.
    B) The gas’s mmics used by Selex are produced in good old Great Britain in the old qinetiq foundry
    C) If you don’t have a *********g clue about the topic, either ask the other participants or don’t write at all

    – The “pumpkin helmet”: nobody that has ever seated in the jet could have said that – see the pic above

I am not exactly an expert, and i´ve never been in an F-35 cockpit, but thats the third time that i´ve saw it being written, and just looking at the photos bellow i cant fail to notice that the head rest is pretty high by comparison with the Viper and thats a biggggg helmet.
I am going to wait on this one.
