    ….another observation on that picture.
The owner says it was a holiday snap of his parents.
I doubt very much if it was taken with any kind of zoom lens, so…if that’s the old 06 end, looking South at Jacksons Brickyard…then where was the photographer stood? Looks like on the taxiway?
In those days, there was a road across the runway wasn’t there? Could be at the barrier point of that maybe?

Dunno, Ringway was my suspicion. I spotted there in the 60’s and the picture just looked familiar to me. Not my picture, I posted it for somebody else.

I agree with all that you writ,
But i don’t know what you actually want in response?

Whilst I belly-laughed at Tommy Cooper etc. in the 60’s, I also find some of todays comics funny too. Yes, some are are making an easy life of it, some are talented. Gervais is actually quite a talent, although I don’t like most of his stuff.
But, comedy must change along with society. Apparently, society is more edumicated now, so the comedy has changed.
IMO it hasn’t, a man slipping on a Banana skin will always be funny.

The pillock bit of my OP was that he said what he did on the wrong show. We expect it from him on TG, but the 7pm show (Isn’t it live minus 5 seconds?….so the producer may not of sanctioned it?) is watched by a different crowd and children. And, it was on the same day as the action, if done in a few weeks it would be seen for the joke it was.
My Mrs was on strike as part of local Guvmint. The Pension (Which is no more guilt edged than any other Company contribution scheme) was actually not that great before, now it’s worse…or threatened to be worse.
And to the rant above about overpaid workers etc. then I can assure you that your opinion is not sound. The vast majority of these workers are underpaid and I suspect mainly female (Which has the added history of being underpaid and still not caught up despite all the equal pay stuff). My role, transferred to Central Government would pay 50% less, for example. Yes, some senior managers may be on a good ticket, but no more so than in industry.

The flipside of the above is the basic question about what the camera is actually used for?
If your hobby is Photography, and spend hours taking pictures and even more hours editing / messing about with them in Photoshop or similar….then go for the entry level DSLR.

If however (And I think this is you) you want to take quality pictures of everyday things and would just like a walk-about camera, then consider a Bridge type like you have already done. But don’t stick to the Canon, look at Panasonic (My preference) too. And Sony.
There are a lot of advantages to having one lens. I had a Bridge for 4 years and won several photo competitions (In a Camera Club) with the results from it.
Further flipside…..once you see the quality that is capable of these cameras, you may want to go for a DSLR!

    Merlin,

Whilst I understand your sentiments, it’s not the practical way forward for all sorts of reasons. This person’s actions are clearly wrong to all of us here because of the standards layed down in life, with some instinct thrown in. In order for a society to judge the criminality and wrong-doing of an individual, that society has to remain above the actions of the individual.

Yes, that often means murderers get a life sentence and a telly, rather than the gallows, but in the long run it’s better for society as a whole, and for the legal process. As soon as death penalties and so forth get talked about, all sorts of things get turned on thier head and things can get very messy.

    Just my tuppence worth…

Your tuppence worth is part of the thread!
    Nowthen, I’m challenging myself here…..
If this man had put another man in the machine (OK big machine!) then (a) It probably wouldn’t be news and (b) I wouldn’t care less if he hung or jailed.
It is the murder of a 3 year old which makes this person lower than an animal . Mental health issues – I don’t really care about…if he had issues that bad, the kid should have been lifted by the French SS (Social Services).

You see PeeDee Arthur way well be a devout christian and forgiveness is part of the whole deal. But are you saying being a serious christian in its fullest meaning is not normal?

To be honest I dont think the guy deserves to breath a minute longer on this planet than he needs to but its not for me to decide what happens to him it his society that should choose.

I think he might not live long when he reaches jail anyhow.

Aah, but surely YOU are society?
Just as a Church is the people not the building.

    No no no!
Don’t wait for invites, there is a search choice “Search for Groups”. Type in your forte Local history or whatever and you will find dozens.
Some groups only allow 6 pictures per day, some are limitless. Some want you to post three and comment on three others.
There will even be a group for your camera model, almost certainly a group for your Town or County.
Now and again you get invites, but don’t wait on them.
