What car is that on Moggy? Every service checklist I have ever read (OK, only BMW/Ford/BL/GM-Vaux. and Pug.) starts with the basic oil/plugs/filters change. These stay as the basics as one climbs up the service ladder to the 400 point check (BMW 400 point check – other cars have a similar). Air filters should be changed every 5,000 miles. If you have a steel mesh one, it needs putting in the dishwasher every 5k miles. (Then coating again with the spray stuff)

More and more I hear about garages doing a very poor service like this. I do my own stuff like you (Or pay PROPER experts to do it) but some people I know with cars under warranty have put Biro marks on Air filters to see if they get changed. They don’t. If they can’t be bothered doing the air filter, the rest of the service must be rubbish. The stamp in the book means nothing these days.
And, if you have an old car, not worth giving it to the main dealer garage for a service, as it’s an old car they will put a trainee on it (To save the expense of him/her messing up a really expensive new one).
BTW, 200 miles won’t discolour the oil. Give it 500 and report back.

I got a flash from a speed camera last weekend. I was doing 130km ph in a 90 on the motorway in Belgium. I forgot that the speed limit drops near junctions. (from 130 to 90 or from 100 to 60 km ph)
