Pete, Thanks for that. She is going to be beautiful when she is finished. You mentioned Australia in the Blog. Can you tells us the company that provided the pressings? Precision? Looking forward to any further progress reports
Beaufighter VI, Has there been any more news on the CR.42?
If you go to Old Sarum – and it is very worth the visit – take a look to the top of the next hill. Site of High Post airfield. The Stones hotel is located in the area of the old base buildings and you could prop there for an evening. I can recommend their steaks ! At Old Sarum, not only can you see the WW.I hangars but also on the Middle Wallop side have a look at the tall brick structure at the end of the runway. It is the original WW.I gun butts.
Dave,
Don’t forget Ron working on the Demon restoration. Magnificent job there !
HANGAR it is for me………
Ron, Yes I was directly involved with it from its inception in Randal McFarlane’s kitchen in Maroubra through the search for an airframe, raising funds, the final rebuild and fit-out process in Stockton, California and then the ferry flight across the Pacific. I was also involved in its maintenance and operation for that wonderful five year period before that AWM employee caused the problem to bloom and eventually have it sold overseas when a higher bid had been placed by a local consortium. That really made us all angry. Saw it later in Chino when we were there collecting spares for the Temora Sabre. Brought it all back and just made me mad again. It was not the AWM that was the problem it was that one employee.
Woops, that must be Toowoomba.
And a Kiwi Harvard there too……
I think you would find that the “low Pass” is actually a take-off shot. The show was great and a credit to Mudgee Aero Club and all the participants. Hopefully it shall be on next year. Fly Pelican had hoped for 2 “joyflight” opportunities but the demand filled four during the day and could have done many more. They certainly shall be back
Every time I read about the AWM B.25 it gives me a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. That aircraft could have remained in Australia if not for the actions of certain employees of the AWM. Hopefully the new Reevers machine will eventually fill that gap but it stall galls me and many others
Nice to see her again in her old livery. I remember a totally incredible flight in her at a small strip at Narromine, New South Wales with Guido piloting. A great weekend that one with all the warbirds on the east coast heading to Narromine for an impromptu fly-in.
Yes, love to hear if any of the problem areas have been solved or any more spares located around the place. Beautiful aircraft and deserves to be in the air again.
Getting old Errol and typing impatiently. Yes it is John Bargh. He is a very gifted pilot and very self effacing. He is related to Vic Bargh a Kiwi who flew with 67 Sqn RAF flying Buffalos. Great book “Ketchil” describes his efforts and John went into Masterton and found a copy for me knowing my interest. Great ag pilot. Ask him one day about his ag demonstration near the Tui brewery. Bevan is what I believe the new face of antiques and warbirds. Very happy that he has been given these opportunities although they were not handed out but very much earned.
Errol, Great shots mate. Love the Be12 and that pic of Gene, Bevan and John is a cracker. See you at Albion Park for Wings….
What………….. didn’t believe my post in Duxford Diary on 10th April?
