Now you are talking. Its such an iconic Italian fighter. Have spoken with a number of Oz veterans in the past who encountered these machines and were VERY impressed with their maneuverability.
Thanks Beaufighter VI. This is a fascinating restoration and it surprises me that more people are not following. Spit I, Hurricane, Blenheim and Fiat formation………. something to salivate over.
As the UK winter approaches and restoration becomes the norm rather than flying are there any updates on the Fiat’s progress? Here in the Antipodes we are bathed in glorious sunshine…..great for the cricket…….
I did a scheme for the machine before Sy passed away. Wonder if the new owners are still interested.
Correct in every sense. The aircraft should do most of the talking. It is a skill that must be learned by commentators. The 45 degree rule.
It’s because, unless you are a single celled organism, it is exciting news……..
F one eleven is what it was called generically but when they first started to arrive that “F one hundred and eleven” is how they were to be called “officially”. Of course no-one did. I have been associated with RAAF types for many years and they just called them “Pigs”. In fact, the video produced by the squadrons was called “Pigs can Fly”
I remember when the F.111 was first introduced in Oz. An “Official” from the RAAF stated on TV that it was to be called, “…the F One Hundred and eleven…” Remember that quite clearly. As QldSpitty correctly says, here we just called them “Pigs”.
Then of course there is the Australian War Memorial 109………
Mk.24 My equal Fav Spitfire to the Mk.Vc and the object of my Lotto win spend………… if only
Yes, comparable……… I am talking about the press reaction and that of the politicians. It ‘died’ down very quickly in comparison to the Hunter because no-one was really hurt. The fact that a 777 could have come down in residential area but ‘didn’t’ made it a non story.
I think Camden does as well as I know that some of these have been used in NZ
Does anyone recognize the port/jetty over which the Bf110 is flying?
Airshow safety ! Airshow safety ! Airshow safety ! Hue and Cry ! No such sustained hue and cry about the British Airways “Glider” at Heathrow but that’s ‘different’, isn’t it, that was just ice in the fuel……….. Such a pity about Old Sarum and – Sabrejet, I know what went on with Old Sarum last year and it WAS a family issue so I suggest that you keep you speculation to yourself when you are not in the loop as to what happened. Even last year before the family issue emerged Slipstream was having huge difficulties trying to adjust display lines, juggle how ‘freeloaders’ were going to be managed, how areas were to be sterilized, where aircraft could fly how they would transit etc, etc, etc. The Hunter incident has given every bureaucrat, politician and naysayer a forum to hear their (often) totally uninformed views on what to do and where to do it. Common sense should have prevailed here. Investigate the incident, find out the root cause – not the speculation – introduce sensible changes if necessary and get on with it. Shoreham was a tragedy to be sure that should not have happened and my thoughts are still with the families of those who passed away and were injured. So it is a tragedy when airliners and other civil aircraft plunge into residential areas but you do not see the same sort of knee-jerk reaction when that happens. Airfields like Heathrow are not suddenly closed down and moved out into the country where that possibility cannot occur. The regulations and restrictions that have been introduced since Shoreham are way over the top and for the most part do not increase “safety” one little bit. Speak with experienced Flying Display Directors and display pilots and see their views. All the new regulations do is give the pollies and bureaucrats their soap box upon which to proclaim “See, look what I have done!” and to justify their existence in places like the Daily Fail.
It is so sad to see that events like Old Sarum and charity shows elsewhere where tiny airshows brought in some cash for worthy causes shall fall by the wayside. Many more shall. Avion ancien you are right, there are no votes in airshows
And the Camden Museum of Aviation……….
