Piece of Cake

Good to see so many Piece of Cake fans. Think I’ve worn out my much loved video set, soon be time for the DVD version.
I remember reading in ‘How they made A Piece of Cake’, Derek Robinson commenting how well his characters were bought to life by the actors.
Highlights for me bar everybodies favourite, the white cliffs action in episode six and Moggy throughout the series are – the airfield beat up at sunset at the end of episode three, flying underneath the bridge, and I always like the moment when you see one of the pilots look slowly around the sky in his goggles with the light catching them at certain angles – sublime.
I always feel sorry for the skilled CH3, he survives the book only to die in the series after sparing a Bf109 pilot (Its a nicely shot scene though).
Music is also superb.

I think the series bought in 12 million odd viewers when first screened, Dark Blue World did very well, Spitfire Ace bought in double the usual viewers for that slot on Channel 4. So lets see more of the same on TV. The public demands!

I’ve just finished ‘Damn Good Show’- as mentioned before its not PoC but the characters are strong with some fine moments.

Out of interest, I remember that before his death, Battle of France veteran and writer, Paul Richey was going to court with Derek Robinson over PoC.
I also remember reading somewhere the late, great, Brian Kingcombe writing that a similar episode to Rexs fate occured in real life, only in reality a useless CO was shot down by one of his pilots. Accidents happen and all that.
