    AH7270?

Could it be AH7270? I’m trying to identify the application of a set of these wheels.

    Thanks.

Looks like a prop dome from a Curtiss Electric propeller.

Return to flight, or just keep the ones we have

While it would be great to see a continuation of the return to flight ethos that has seen us able to enjoy the Vulcan over the past few years, I believe a great many people underestimate the effort required to keep what is currently flying aloft and viable.

It has become increasingly difficult over the past few years to extract from airshow organisers sufficient funds to simply cover the operating costs for participating in a show, let alone build-up some contingency fund towards future engine overhaul etc.

It’s all too easy to take for granted the aeroplanes we currently enjoy.

    Privacy

Private collections of old aeroplanes are held in most cases by those who appreciate these old machines. Having an appreciation for the aeroplanes however does not necessarily mean that you want your privacy invaded and people poking about your hangar etc.

If people wish to go ahead and form museums then that’s great, equally however people should be allowed to enjoy their aeroplanes without their every move being scrutinised and interpreted (often incorrectly) by folks, however well intentioned, that don’t actually input into the running of the organisation.

Just because we may have a passing interest in a subject does not give us any grounds to make demands of people’s hospitality nor expect to have them justify or explain themselves to us.

    Hunter Canopy

I have a clear Hunter canopy which may be available, but only if it’s going on an aeroplane that’s kept under cover.

    Newark Harvard

I believe the complete airframe at Newark was originally found along with a few others in a Dutch scrapyard in the 80s and was imported along with another (?) by the Harvard Formation Team as spares.

    Sandhurst

The Harvards were located in a yard, not, to my knowledge the military Sandhurst site.

What happened to the one which was at the Booker Air Museum all those years ago?

    Hamilton Standard Prop

Transport would be easier if it were in the South or Midlands, but we could collect from anywhere in the UK.

    Import

In all fairness to HMRC now, if the correct import tariff is used when importing an old aeroplane, or parts thereof, then they can be imported free from import duty, and the appropriate VAT is 5% rather than the usual 20%.

That’s now however, I cannot comment as for then.
