Did you look at it long enough to see ‘MLZ (or half of her) in the background of the photo of the Cunard Brit at Heathrow?? At first glance I thought it was a modern photo taken at Speke π
Roger Smith.
Yes spotted that π
Though I am sure I have seen that picture somewhere before. I wonder if it has been in a book at some point……

I don’t think SM520 was one of the Vickers conversions, unless it was IAC160?
Thats what Daz is saying!
That if the modified term applies to non Vickers conversions then why doesnt SM520 carry it as well?
Jon
It’s been done before with airframes, but its only a hypothetical conversation so I wouldnt worry about it too much. π
So in the spirit I am sure Philip meant the thread, would it need anymore that just a nose swap/reprofile?
Jon
Only guess – because there are no complete MK1’s left??
Jon
No it didnt, but it does still exist. The front end of VP293 is at Duxford these days I think with a private owner.
The Helston example is WG511 which is still there.
Jon
You’d have to fill in the ‘ole underneath for the radar too!
Only if they started with an AEW.2, but the original post said MK.2 π Also not sure if there is much remedial work needed if you removed the radar?
Jon
You are aware of the date clash on that score arent you?
Jon
Anyone else spotted the Tempest/Typhoon parts yet…..?
Jon
Looks better with the cover on at the moment π , but here you go.
Jon
Once I have finished sifting through the boxes of parts that came with it, and have got myself a bit more organised will post some more pictures. There is no denying a lot of work is ahead, but the potential is there.
As for taking it to Cockpitfest – in short no. We (North West Aviation Consortium as someone has jokingly dubbed us :P) are planning for the event at the moment and we have run out of vehicles to tow with! That said depending on were things are up to I MAY try and get some part of it over. In the meantime you will just have to make do with the Sea Hawk which has taken up my trailer allocation π
Jon
And in the age old tradition on this site, here is the parts shopping list v1.0 in particular order –
Complete control column
Canopy ejection rails
Armour plate, LHS nose below windscreen
Top part of nose cone
LHS gun spout fairing/panel (I do have one but is rather mangled having come from a crashed plane – see attached picture)
L/H top ammo door
R/H top ammo door
Any leads etc on the above parts (or any Vampire single seat parts for that matter) will, as always, be greatly appreciated.
Jon
Probably in one of the private yards surrounding AMARC or whatever it’s called now.Any C/KC97’s still flying, does anyone know?
Google is your friend –

There is another one used as a fire bomber.

Noting the comment about it not being listed and has never been, apply to get it listed as there is nothing to lose and everything to gain –

Should be in with a good shout as –
