Wow!!!
Its only been about a month since I was last there and its coming on in leaps and bounds!
Keep up the good work and see you all up there again soon 🙂
Jon
Also any bits left over for Camlobe to use on Mr Rusty up in Caernarfon?! 😀
Jon
Surely http://www.demobbed.org.uk is a good starting point?
Jon
Interesting………. Appears to be in a display case. Is it in a museum?
Planemike
Silverjets’ departure lounge at Luton if I am not mistaken 🙂 Did wonder myself what is was when I last went through there and now i know!
Jon
Bruce,
Are you in touch with the Swiss Venom cockpit owner in North Wales? If not drop me a pm and will put you in touch 🙂
Jon
I think I have found you one of these – but no key! You should be able to use the two to make one decent unit.
Bruce
Key is not important just need the all important handle 😀
Initially I thought the whole unit had been stripped out however that is all still there. I suspect previously the key had also been lost so to secure it each time easiest thing was to make the handle detachable and take it with you.
So guess I now need to arrange delivery with you 🙂
Jon
Sounds just like me, when I was restoring my bus…:D 😀
‘MLZ is looking good…
Was she the aircraft that was at RAF Newton about 5 or 6 years ago?
For what it is worth vintage trams are a lot nicer to rebuild. Worked on 6 of them now and its all wood and coach bolts etc, none of this riveting lark 😛
As far as I am aware when she ceased flying in the early 70’s she sat at Conventry until 1997 (?) when moved to Caernarfon. Then spent the next 10 years there until we got her.
Jon
Jon,
I’ve sent you a PM about the Prince tyres. They arrived in the UK last week.
Cheers,
Stuart
He he! More presents to play with 😀
Thanks,
Jon
Will drop you a PM with some suggestions 😉
Jon
Now WAAAAYYYY off topic – is there still a Vampire at Errol?
Bruce
Do you mean this one – http://www.demobbed.org.uk/images/xd403.jpg
Jon
Percival pembroke WV740 has been repainted over the last 3 weeks.
at the weekend we pulled her out of the paintshop onto the bournemouth
aviation’s museum’s apron where she lives. the aircraft is how ready for
a busy airshow season. see the attached photo’s.
Looking VERY nice!
Fancy doing our Prince next? 😉
Jon
Before everyone jumps on the bandwagon and gets in touch with Blackpool – there are two groups (talking to each other too…!) about this airframe. The two groups have already viewed the aircraft and are awaiting further instrutions from the company which owns her.
Thanks for adding that LL 🙂 I was going to mention that but didn’t want to upset anyone and put my foot in it somewhow. 😉
Jon
TwinOtter23, Thank you for that explanation, very good, I have a better understanding.
As a small aside, I often think about my particular interest, post war civil airliners, and the fact that a few have “slipped through the preservation net”, whilst I would be the first to agree that not everything can, or will, be saved for the future, do you good people, in museums, look into those aircraft that are going out of service at the moment, both civil and military, and consider whether to invest in an exanple now, rather than leave it untill they become rare or virtually unobtainable, and by then very expensive ?
The more I think about these things, the more I can see how difficult your jobs are ! Oh for a view into the future ! Keith.
Has the age of the internet made any difference in helping identify airframes and saving them?
Take the 748’s at Blackpool for example – say someone said you can preserve any one you want. I guarantee that straight away people would be on the likes of google and other information resources and with maybe 30 minutes come back and say G-BEJD as its last surviving mk.1. Go back say 20 years and how long would it have taken to reach the same conclusion? The fact that she is the last remaining mk.1 and is quietly rotting at Blackpool though maybe highlights some fine tuning is still needed……
