Yes, if you overlook Paderborn with Air Berlin last year which I believe has moved to Hurn! 😀

They let you go on a VC10 at a Farnborough show! Your lucky if you get to go up in a helicopter these days!

Not exactly, it was LHR to LHR, last B.A. flight, no airshow in sight ! 🙂

I know the VC10 does use a lot of thrust because the one i went on last summer at Brize Norton, used a huge amount of thrust. When you are sat on it you can not feel it as much because the RAF ones have their seats set the opposite way. (so you face the rear of the aircraft)

It does use a lot of thrust and it is very noisy. Watched one take off at Halifax, Nova Scotia last year and there was nobody sleeping in the vicinity of the airport. Also flew on the last B.A. VC-10 enthusiast flight when they were retired. The plane was full of course, but light on fuel and the pilot really enjoyed the beat up of the airfield at Farnborough, certainly pulled some G on the pull up! 🙂

A little further information has come to hand. This plane was the last Cloud produced and registered G-ACGO before going on a European sales tour where CSA bought it and registered it as OK-BAK. During the war, it was stored and the wings could not be found afterwards. The hull, less the tail was used as a motor launch called ‘Delfin’ and used on the Ultava until the mid 1960’s. A replacement set of wings were made, but they were too heavy and the plane was returned to store.

Well, it is not on e-bay, the item was removed for violating one of the rules, not sure which one and now cannot check the item. 🙁

The 747 + plus other aircraft have devices called “Mass Balance weights” fitted to some control surfaces and these are made out of Depleted Uranium..

So Airbus use D.A. as well? Is this the same as the Americans use for some of their shells (tanks?). I am really trying to find out if there is any radio-activity involved in this practice.

What was the final outcome of the HELIOS airliner crash investigation?

Greek authorities have concluded that human error caused the crash of a Helios Airlines flight near Athens last year. According to a report leaked to the Greek media, technicians forgot to switch the pressurization system on the Boeing 737 back to automatic after a system check and the pilots failed to notice. Everyone on board, except a steward who tried vainly to control the plane, fell unconscious hours before the plane ran out of fuel and crashed…

This is a ‘leaked’ report and should not be considered official, yet.

The name of one of the bidders is south of the border – should be interesting!

Looks like most of the bidders are from that geographical location but the clue of parts spares does not sound reassuring. 🙁

At a tangent to the thread, how do you calculate the profit and loss on a war? :confused:
