Any news on the Auster’s identity?

Someone had to ask! 😀 It took long enough to try and identify the Moth!
I have written to the club and see if a reply is forthcoming.

What’s your source? Any date?

Sourced from another forum and the date about the 12th April. The Moth was supposed to be under restoration for twenty six years (!), so the identity is still not 100 %.

It might be deduced that that VH-JGS, D.H. Cirrus Moth 60X was the aircraft involved as it based at the airfield. There are about eleven Moths in the area and this does not include Tiger Moths.

Harrison Ford did the flying for that movie a few years back about him get stranded on a tropical island with some lady, cant remember what it was called,

Six Days Seven Nights, 1998, Anne Heche. The plane was a Beaver and Harrison owns one.

They did in the movie Wings – in 1927!!

Didn’t know you were that old DDM! Yes you’re right, Richard Arlen was a RCAF pilot and flew in the film. The stunts and crashes were done by, amongst others, famous stunt pilot Dick Grace.

I did a few annuals on that one, surprised he finally soled it as his mother has more time in it than he does. When it came back for the 2nd annual it had done all of 4 hours in the previous 12 months, I think it was up to almost 14 hours by the 3rd annual & I can tell you that it’s a complete PIG to work on as the cockpit is fitted out like a bloody Bentley.

I would guess the insurance company would not allow him to fly it anytime he was under contract to do a film as the risk would be too great in the event of an accident.

Well, your cheque book wasn’t big enough was it! High bid was $155,100 and did not sell. I reckon the reserve would have been $250,000.
