Accident report leaked

Until recently the political situation between Russia and Ukraine wasn’t exactly favourable for any joint ventures…..we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Volga Dnepr and Antonov Company (Antonov Design Bureau as was) seem to be getting along quite nicely at the moment;)

Are we sure of that? IIRC the design specified 2 compartments fully flooded. The designer Andrews is mean to have said she can stay aflot with 2, perhaps 3 flooded, but not 4.
We’re both wrong:D:D
Olympic Class Ocean liners could stay afloat with the first 3 of 6 separate compartments flooded but only to the top of the bulkhead.

It was the simultaneous flooding of 4 compartments that doomed the Titanic… the resulting added weight was too much.
If the watertight bulkheads had been as specified in the initial designs Titanic would have survived with the four compartments flooded

It was said at the time that if the Titanic had rammed the iceberg head on instead of trying to manouvre on she would have survived due to the strength and height of her Collision bulkhead….
It was a chain of events from initial build that led to the sinking…………..
Wrong rivets ordered for shaped steel on bowplates #3 (wrought Iron) instead of #3 best (steel)
The lowering of the watertight bulheads till only just 10ft above the waterline
The reduction of ther lifeboats to just 16 IAW with Board of Trade recommendations to tonnage not number of passengers carried.
Replacement of one of the officers who accidently took the keys to the binocular storage with him
The California switching off her radio as she rested for the night due ice.
Anda couple of other I cannot remember of the top of my head

Some people are beyond redemption!!
I guess a lot of you peeps noticed the war memorial just outside the entrance to Santa pod raceway – if not, there is a thread on here that features a picture of it.
That plaque is a memorial to the thousands of young men that ventured forth from these shores and were vaporised in the cold thin air over europe in an effort to end the brutality and slavery imposed by the vilest regime in modern history.
Most airfields have similar monuments. There used to be one at Mendlesham, that commemorates the efforts of the 34th heavy bomb group.
……………..until the P****s took it for scrap last week 😡

Mod note – Two threads have been merged from here downwards.
It’s going to be repeated later in the year on BBC2:rolleyes:
