Rafale, younger than Gripen NG ?;)

Well, Gripen started out first, both platforms evolving in big and smaller steps, NG is flying…F4 is the “youngest” or least mature 🙂

Saudies E-3 have restrictions coupled to its use, and are not as independant as they want them to be. So maybe a 2-3 erieye is a complement to them.

    how do we know?

first of all due to price and no TOT in the deal. it seems a straight forward order.

One should ask which system can house a single F414EDE and F-35 “avionics light”. that should be the ANG platform.
cheap and bity in it role..
I think its to bad f-20 didnt make it, it would probably been perfect

Yeah and it should stay that way. The technology we need for this is already proven. It’s called the Space Shuttle. All we really need to do is refine the design to make it reusable (as in one object, not four) and add a bomb bay. Problem solved.

well, its only to design the engines for sustained flight and then we can sell it as VW:s. 🙂

I’m still failing to see why an ANG interceptor is going to need VLO details, ground attack radar modes, and a large motor like the F110. Makes more sense to me to set a competition up for a dedicated – you know, single-role – interceptor. Aim for a smaller engine, preferably OTS, with 60kN dry and 90kN wet thrust performance goals at an SFC that is sustainable in time of national security. These airframes need to be affordable, sustainable in an economic downturn, and effective for the ANG to carry out it’s domestic defense role. We don’t need stealth, 100 radar modes, and certification to carry every gizmo ever slung under a warplane in the history of the United States.

as i said F-20/29 with F414 and downgraded F-35 avionics..
its already there its “just” a integration to do..

or be bold and build Gripen NG under licence..:)

    and for the record:
I really dont think Gripen would have existed if USAF bought F-20..

I vote for a upgraded F-20/29 or X-36 with “downgraded” f-35 avionics and F414 EPE..:)

He means Superhornet “stealth” i think..RCS of 0,1-0,5 without arms..

I dont think “weaponpods” will be that stealthy. there still room for waves bouncing more than in once..
and i dont think Euroland will start anything exept studies, until about 2030.
