[QUOTE=jackjack;1627366]
its a fact the swedes are doing the harware intergration of the aesa to the backend
/[QUOTE]
The swedes, you mean SAAB EDS. They are not involved in the Thales AESA but other parts on rafale.
Well I know that Germany, Italy and the UK would be willing to take Tranche 3b, if a buyer for the Tranche 1 planes is found.
and the price of those? the didnt follow the swedish romania example, for example…
Osprey is only at the begining of its evolution, next gen will probably be faster, go futher and be more efficient.
the x-2 on the other hand is refinement of an old tech
By the time X-2 tech is on the market, tiltrotor tech will have some upgrades up its sleive.
wings will allways more efficient than rotors in flight
Bigger rotors will allways be better on hovering and lowspeed, than two small thats optimed for forward motion.
So? whats your reqiurement? VTOL or hovering/lowspeed?
Since we were on the topic of the RBE2 and AESA radars in general, I wanted to post something I found though it is not directly related to this thread. I didn’t want to create a new thread just for this one post though. If a mod thinks it is more appropriate elsewhere, please move it.
i dont think anyone makes brick AESAs for new systems these days.
the Finnish Air Forces is looking at other possible jet fighters on the market.
due to the high price for 15 years of service…
to fast sometimes 🙂
The number of TRMs of the RBE2 AESA is probably somewhere between 1000 and 1100 as Dassault claims “1000+” (And, if it was more than 1100, Dassault would have claimed “1100+” instead of “1000+”, in my opinion)
.
ok, i heard otherwise and i did found it strange..
RBE2 AESA should be 236Km (1.5 times).
i think its GaN TRM that makes 50% more output at given input over Si TRMs
This have nothing to do with the older PESA range, due to its not solid state Si.
to buy a mature platform, you miss out some crusial point:
they dont evolve as much in capabilities in the future (are at the top of there lifespan capability)
they tend to be out of date earlier
they dont leave much for the countries own industry exept assembly
Look at the finnish AF for example. There F/A-18 they bought instead of gripen A is now possible about to be replaced. The platform was mature and on the shelf at the time, but lived only for 20 years.
i thought this was part of the initial requirements, and therefor past it allready? Or is this a IAF evaluation of the programs?
That piece of information is also valuable for the Gripen as with a similar size antenna and less electricity production it is very likely that it will also limited with its range.
.
As i pointed out, electricity isnt a problem, cooling is.

Thales vs. Selex/Saab EDS
Smaller diameter and much less search and track volume is to me, less capable in many senses..;)
The roumers of 850 TRMs of the RBE2 makes it less capable beam steering even in the frontal area.. more TRMs more “concentrated” beams.
But ofcourse Thales have the upperhand in production and could have something up its sleeve, who knows.
As for arthuro always points out is, less engine, less power…
the biggest factor isnt onboard electricpower, but onboard TRM cooling…
How efficient is the cooling relates to the how much output power it can produce.
GaN is also more efficient and could produce more output with less heat.
Heat is one of the biggest design challanges for a modern compact AESA like the fighter AESA, in particully the smaller ones.
The UAE don’t have AWACS. That the reason why they ask for the maximum radar range possible.
UAE just bought two old Erieye as a stopgap for a future Competition.

No offense to any Swedish friends here.
But is it me or does anyone else think that SAAB are not very good losers. They have come up with statements rubbishing selection processes in the past. Will they do the same if they do not win in Brazil and India ?
Saying that I hope they win one of the Big deals.
Dear friend, no offense taken.
If Brazil wants Rafale for the great bargin with airlifters or the arguement pepe said above. Or “We just want rafale”. That would probably not upset anybody.
But building arguements on false data, like in Norway that would upset anybody thats in the competition. EADS was smart enough to see it before the evaluation.
And to hide a political desicion in false data seems to me weak and dishonest. Especially when this is your nextdoor neighbor that you have a good and close relationship with.
In austria, Bae handled the deal for both EF and Gripen, thats to bad. Gripen got a to high price, and EF won..but that was all Saabs fault.
With its smaller political muscels, they probably thought they have to work in another manner?
Rafale is a great a/c, the best in many fields, and i really hope it find a exportcustomer soon, it earned it! To bad Gripen have to lose over it thou. 😉
