I too like these silent remains…
I’m fortunate to live near several old airfields… (15 or so in a similar milage radius)
Ok so they are all ex-military and nearly all were training grounds but the “ghosts” are still there in the form of buildings and the road infrastructure…
I also love the architecture of the aerodromes and airports of the 20’s & 30’s… The likes of Gatwick’s bee-hive (still there), the hangars at Heston (now long gone) and Sywell motel (still used as such).

I agree, when I am at an abandoned airfield I try to imagine how it looked when there was activity around. One of my favourite pastimes!

If it has to do with %, then aside from SQ which is at 0%, UA would have to have the 2nd worst % seeing as they have by far the largest fleet in Star and only one painted in the livery.

Agreed, so either the members don’t care about that, or I remember incorrectly. My money is on the latter…

I will go so far to suggest that it might be a certain percentage of the fleet that has to wear the alliance livery. Not sure, but I think I’ve read that somewhere on the internal web pages of my airline.

Concerning SAS, also one of the founding members, we currently have one A330-300 and one B737-800 in the Star Alliance colours. Other types may or may not follow, I’m not authorised to give out that information… 😉

They used the existing site and runways for the ‘new’ airport.

Exactly what happened to Oslo Gardermoen in 1998, a second runway was added and a new terminal. The old one is used for GA and bizjets.

Interesting reading. What has become of Denver’s closed airport, is it still intact or torn down?

I see, just like they are doing with the former airport (1923-1977) in Torslanda, Gothenburg right now then…

Some good news about Le Caravelle Club; their site is back online and yesterday there apparently was a brotherly visit to Arlanda by the Flying Veterans and their DC-3 SE-CFP.

I have the A320 FCOM at work, I’ll see if I can get the figures for you tomorrow…

Jeanske_SN, I’m sorry I was unable to find take-off distance info in the A320 FCOM, I’ll keep on looking when I have some more time. 🙂

There are quite a lot of beautiful Lufthansa stewardesses at Lufthansa’s photo gallery

Their gallery is very good as a whole, I wish other airlines did something similar. Great 707 and 727 photos!

While I’m not a fan of wavy liveries at all, it’s still a nice rendition. What software do you use, and what drawings for the base?

Whatever the game says, the A320/A330/A340 have very good wheelbrakes and can be stopped on short runways without even using reversers. Maximum braking alone is even more powerful than using max reverser on the A340, or at least so they say. The brakes will need an extended cooling period afterwards, but it is fully possible.

The QRH (Quick Reference Handbook) included for the Air 2000 A320 states the following landing distances without autobrake:

    Configuration: FULL (Flaps 4)
    Airfield at 0ft AMSL

The actual landing distance is the distance to come to a complete stop from a point 50 ft above the landing surface. No margin is included in this distance.

    46 tons – dry rwy: 630 m, wet rwy 890 m
    54 tons – dry: 720 m, wet 1010 m
    62 tons – dry 830 m, wet 1130 m
    66 tons – dry 900 m, wet 1200 m
    74 tons – dry 1050 m, wet 1300 m

As can be seen, those numbers differ considerably from those in the game. To get the landing distance the game says, you have to weigh 78 tons and land on a wet runway with 6.3mm (1/4 in) water – 1910 m, and it’s still 45 m short!

I think the 1-11 has been grounded in Nigeria following a series of accidents.

Do JARO still operate their 1-11s?

Well, when in doubt, consult Airlinerlist.com!
