Wow, eight years after the new design programme there is still one flying? Incredible and fascinating.

Just one more sign of how perverted the charter business is. The original Britannia disappears to give way for another bland soul-less brand, while the name is retained for the Swedish airline which has nothing to do with the UK other than that the airline is part of the TUI Group. It has its own AOC and is a wholly separate airline which just as well could be called Transwede or Blue Scandinavia which are its previous names.
I get so tired of these branding morons who tell people what they should like and how they should think.

Regarding the ladder, it must have been in use for something other than ice inspection – it had been a very warm clear sunny day, as beautiful as only Scandinavia can be in spring!
Indeed, I forgot that it’s actually April now! 😀 But normally it’s used for clear ice inspection. This time it might have been for whatever inspection, it’s a great invention that ladder design.

Another old lady written off… too bad, she was a nice one.

The stepladder is for a technician to walk up on the wing to inspect for clear ice which has a tendency to gather near the wing root below certain temperatures. That’s was caused an SAS MD-81 to crash after takeoff from Stockholm in 1991… great pics and nice to see you back on the forum, Papa Lima!

What a way to make a comeback! Thanks for those profiles!
…meanwhile, on Gran Canaria, it’s 26 degrees and sunshine but the Sonnenflieger is a bit sad ’cause he saw what a terrible state the DC-7C at El Berriel is at. I’m not joking when I say it would be better for the aircraft’s sake to put it to sleep than to display it with cracked paint, smashed windows and flat tyres.
Best wishes from Puerto Rico! 🙂

I don’t want to get into this but it’s sad that the Profilemeister is no longer allowed to post here. I’ve been in contact with him and whether we’ll see him again is an open question right now.

Thanks very much Seahawk!
Are there no problems with security etc considering there is a military airbase on the Eastern side of the airfield? I guess one should not aim the lens towards the military side in any case?
Is the DC-7 still at the San Agustin Aero Club? I went up to it when I was there in 1989, is it still accesible?
Thanks again for all the hints, I’ll post results when I get back! 🙂
