Lovely yoke Junk collector, original and a time warp from history, ideally just as all yokes should be!

I was looking through some cockpit pictures of Avro Tudors, Avro Yorks, Avro Lincoln’s, all appeared to have similar design yokes ( at least in outer shape) to the Lancaster’s. I’m sure however that there would be subtle differences in these, is there anyone out here who is familiar with the AVRO yoke designs who would know the differences?
Despite the recent availability of a few of these Lancaster yokes they still remain a rare item keenly sought after. I saw one for sale on an American web site some 6 months or so back for sale for £400 fixed price (original). Well under the market price, you never know your luck! Needless to say I missed the boat on that one!
Just managed to acquire a VC10 yoke since my last post with some history will settle for second best though!

We seem to inadvertently advertise a lot of ebay stuff on this forum on a whole dedicated thread. I bet those ebay sellers who benefit from this plug don’t advertise on Flypast let alone buy a copy! Personally I would like to know what sellers will have at the aerojumble. Its good for the perspective customer, good for the seller and most importantly good for the aerojumbles attendance figures!

You mean fin/back fin 😀 In fairness that would look good stuffed and mounted on a wall.

Getting back to EBay itself, what I can’t get my head around is some of the items which are either pointless or hugely overpriced (or both!) that are repeatedly being offered for sale over a period of well over a year – that must cost the seller a fortune and more than they would ever get for the item?

Virtually every weekend is a free listing weekend, list your item free of charge, ask or a fortune and wait for the fish to bite, a waiting game with nothing to loose.

Maybe best unloading the box and photographing the items individually

£250-350 for the turret, Hunter £5k if in reasonable nick on a good day.

I’m kind of with David and Pete on this regarding hugely inflated prices on EBay.
Check out how some of the utterly pointless Nimrod items are titled and priced!

The Nimrod items at extortionate prices do make me laugh, they are only worth buying if you have an airworthy Nimrod to fix it too. As there are no airworthy aircraft then I can’t see where the market is apart from may be the yokes, seats and instrument panels for collectors.

    James,

I too see the irony and the lively conversations that can unfold – aptly highlighted in post #235 but, don’t you think it was better and more gentlemanly, when you could at least see the identity of individuals who were bidding on e-bay?

I prefer the identity of the bidder not being known through a number of experiences I have had. Previously I have had people getting annoyed with me for outbidding them or bidding on an item they wanted. On one occasion after winning a bid I had a phone call from a fellow collector ranting and raving why his projects and collections were more worthy than mine and that I should sell the item to him even before it has arrived on my doorstep! I know of others who have had similar experiences as the aviation collector field is only a small circuit and most people are known to each other. For me best leave the identities anonymous , best man wins the bids on a Even level playing field.

I can’t be the only one that sees the irony in highlighting items for sale to all interested parties here, and then end up bidding against each other!:D

Absolutely correct, I’ve seen this process happen many times over the years, this forum is a great place for bolstering ebay prices. Bad news when you are bidding on an item, on the flip side good news when you are selling an item and someone highlights that said item here. On the balance of probabilities I still think this thread is a good thing for giving people a heads up on what is for sale.

Thankyou all for clarification on the two Vulcan grips.

I’m not well up on grips, any ideas what these are on eBay?
    Item number: 330867390148
    Item number: 200889498529

For those who think that the Tornado grips are over priced then check out this one: eBay item number 290842904055

Your other problem being that looking at the pictures of them being broken, the cockpits appeared to have been saved as there is more awareness that they are collected, each one reduces the supply by two.

One has to wonder if there are any NOS (new old stock) VC10 yokes languishing in the RAF stores? If so these must surely make their way onto the market at some stage through the MOD outlets once the VC10 has retired?

We are all aware that prices are dictated by “supply and demand”. The first batch of yokes of any newly decommissioned aircraft type always fetch a high price as initially many collectors are after them. As people gradually acquire yokes the bidding competition slowly decreases and the prices obviously go down. I have recently seen this with the Nimrod yokes over the past 12 months. However I would expect the VC10 yokes to hold their price, although yoke collecting is a small field I suspect that there won’t be enough to go around for every collector. Anyone know how many of these ships are left both on the ground and flying ?? The VC10 was an admired aircraft both to those who like civilian and military aircraft therefore making it doubly popular with collectors. Well done to who ever purchased the recent yoke and centre cap, nice acquisitions to a collection.
Whilst on the story of centre caps, aircraft have been known to have been delivered fresh from the factory to the new airline with the yoke caps being liberated en route! That’s how popular they can be.

    This was the ten yoke

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VC-10-Aircraft-Yoke-BOAC-VICKERS-BOC-instuments-flight-controls-vc10-/111005934285?pt=UK_CPV_Aviation_SM&hash=item19d87822cd

An original Vickers VC10 centre cap for a yoke and data plate just sold on ebay for £232 ebay item 140909493073 . I presume the centre cap pushed the price up. Original manufacture centre caps often fetch high prices sometimes as near as the price of the yoke itself. Centre caps were often quickly liberated from the aircraft by crew or souvenir hunters as they were easily removable. Suffice to say as with everything else which is hard to acquire and expensive there is a market in reproduction caps sometimes so good that it is hard to tell them apart ( mainly American types )
