Is this the one?

Yes sorry for the late reply it is this co-ordinate which I queried the Comet against.
Oddly I was doing the same stuff this evening, except my travels took me to La Aurora Airport in Guatemala. If you look opposite the terminal building (on the other side of the runway) there appears to be a cluster of old piston props which appear dumped out of the way, including a connie etc. I’m sure I can see something similar to the outline of a De Havilland Comet Airliner, it’s tail appears to be blocked out by a tree but the shape of the wings look very distinctive, can anyone confirm please?
Does anyone who worked at Woodford remember the passenger SABENA Boeing 737 which landed at Woodford mistakening it for Manchester Ringway? (I believe these aparts may be some 6 miles apart) Can anyone shed any further information on this incident?
Sounds great, will you by chance be running the Shackleton as in previous years?
Please, can you do it without the perspex?
Flybuy, you are correct, here is the link and some excellent pics of the Hermes flight deck http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=55871&highlight=handley+page+hermes+restoration
I wonder if there is room here for a thread dedicated to Cockpit, instrument panels, and yokes etc?
Not like the existing projects one, but more of a record of what they look like.
I tend to use the following web sites
http://www.airliners.net or http://www.jetphotos.net
On the drop down field select flightdecks/cockpits and in the free text fields type in which aircraft type you are looking for (for example “Vickers Varsity”). Both sites are good for researching instrument panels and yokes/control wheels of military and Civilan type aircraft.
Enclosed is a picture of the Hastings cockpit at Duxford, hope this helps
For those interested the aerojumble link is as follows:
http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/index.php?/events/details/2009/07/19/
In essence the following is stated,
This is the only jumble in the UK that combines Car, Motorcycle and Aero and is organised by the Brooklands Trust Members. The Museum opens at 10am and normal Museum admission applies. Early Bird tickets are available to allow access from 8am.Auto and Bike Jumblers have the choice of a 20’ by 15’ uncovered pitch or a covered 9’ by 15’ space in the Race Bays. Aero Jumblers also have the choice of a 10’ by 10’ space in Barnes Wallis’s former drawing department. Prices are £50 for tuning bays and £30 for all other pitches including 2 exhibitor passes and £3 voucher for use in the Sunbeam Tea Rooms on Sunday morning. Set up is from 5-10pm on the 18th or from 7-10am on the day. Overnight camping on the 18th available.
I suspect that if 2 people are going (as in my case) then having a £30 stall wouldn’t be much more than buying 2 early bird entrance tickets in the first place.
On a different note, remember the Redhill aerodrome (Surrey) aerojumble which got off to a promising start a couple of years ago, I spoke to the organiser of this and unfortunately it looks as if there will be no more of these from Redhill.
I’ll try to get a stall there this year to sell some of my panels and throttle boxes. I did a stall 2-3 years back and quite enjoyed it, in fact the cost of setting up a stall was virtually the same price as the admission fee so therefore nothing was lost. Dont know how much this years fees will be though? From time to time I have come across some good items on the stalls so its always worth a punt over there.
I remember somewhere on this forum there are good large colour pics of the Hermes cockpit (Pilots and Navigators stations) taken post restoration at Duxford. I’m sure a quick search on this forum will find these.
CV-990
I believe that only 37 Convair 990’s were built, I undertsand that there are plans to hopefully restore an ex Spantax Coranado, I hope this goes ahead and wish the restoration team sucess. To remind me of my CV990 flight as a kid, later in life when this Control wheel from N5615 came on the market I couldn’t resist buying it!!
Were the two CV990 flights from Palma by any chance, evening or night time flights? I remember as a kid flying back to Ringway on one Spantax CV990 flight with another in convoy. (Cannot remember if I was on the first flight or the second). All I know is that two flights were put on due to troubles with a tour company. This was about 1972-1974 (cannot be exact). I had the window seat and the thrust from the engines were emense on take off, the whole cabin shook. Great days, the outward journey was on a Spantax DC8 61 series such a long aircraft with plenty of leg room.
I think its a great thing, Lufthansa, Airfrance, Turkish Airlines (A320’s) and I guess a few others are doing the same. It’s a great way to remember the past and brings back great memories of my youth when I see them in the air on finals.
Having just read the new edition of Flypast magazine I can answer my own question which I raised yesterday. It appears that the Brooklands aerojumble is on the 19th July 2009.
Is the aerojumble on boths days or just the Saturday?
I attended and thought it was a nice day out, nothing better than having an aerojumble on an active airfield. Although personally I didn’t acquire anything I was statisfield with the amount of stalls that were present which allowed plenty of browsing and chatting, it was encouraging that the spirit of the aerojumble still lives on. Good to see the regulars and a few new people there, a big thankyou for those who made the effort to get a stall up and running making my visit and doubt others worth while. Nice to see that there were a few stick tops and instrument panels for sale, the bread and butter stuff of aerojumbles!
Out of interest does anyone know of what other aerojumbles are scheduled in the UK this year, in particular Brooklands?
I am aware of the Newark aerojumble in June 2009 but just wondered what else is listed.
