I was passing Llanbedr in November, I’m sure that I saw a pile of bits that looked like looked like meteor wings lying behicnd the hangars- the chap writing into flypast (an ex pilot of the wingless one- when it was an F8) is spot on- it ought to have a place in the Divided World hall at Cosford.
That said, a drone Meteor would fit in well with Cosford’s eclectic mix of Meteor versions- if as seems likely ‘800 does not have a future as a flying ‘warbird’ then would this not seem like a good plan?
The two Canberras were looking rather tidy (4th of Nov), I had’nt realised at the time that they were not long for this world! I guess they can’t all be saved 🙁
Also- yes there surely could be a little corner found in ‘AirSpace’ for a Jindivik, given its interesting ‘commonwealth’ heritage it would go well with their general theme? (If they are being sold off- anybody fancy a garage sized jet 😀 )
Great news, could’nt imagine a nicer place to work either!
(Insert Rolf Harris accent here) can you tell what it is yet 🙂
Looking at that Issacs Spitfire side view- how about a ‘racing’ scheme with a red stripe over silver, just because it would look brilliant in an air to air photo with a certain pair of its larger ancestors 😉
Nice zero, who makes those? 😀
Personally, I don’t get all the hassle over replica fighters. Think of it this way, nobody here gets any stick for having a shelf full of built up airfix kits or corgi models, or for building a flying model Spitfire. A replica is pretty much a model in that it represents something fantastic yet fairly unobtainable for most of us, with the bonus that you can sit in it and get the thrill of flight into the bargain, which sounds *%£@”<^~# brilliant in my book :diablo:
Sorry to ruffle any feathers but Ihave to side with Daz on this one 😉
(As somebody who has fancied one of these things since seeing the Sildinger (sp???) Hurricane in a magazine as a Kid 🙂 )
PS, I tend to refer to ‘my tiger moth, Mustang or Piper cub’ despite the fact that they fit into the boot of my car…… discuss :p
Happy Christmas Everybody 🙂
Happy Christmas from the usual suspects at Baginton!
🙂
the Dove that they did have with the war memorial theme while being a good lifter of logistics!
Speaking of the old BBMF Dove/Devon (depanding on what mood it is in at the time 😀 )- It has just had its roundels re-applied here in sunny Coventry and should be back in the air before too long- watch this space for pictures!
There is a great deal stored in hangars around Cosford including, from memory, a Vickers Valetta, an American jet fighter gifted to the museum from a European air force, and a collection of 1930’s training monoplanes, amongst other bits and pieces.
I’m sure I heard a rumour that the remains of a 1930s bomber lay in the woods around Cosford, but I may be way wide of the mark here
Oh yes, I think it is still the plan to combine the Le Mans trip with the Paris airshow, making a long weekend of it! (Forgot to mention that before 🙂 )
If you call Annette (the commercial manager), direct on 0870 330 4747 she can give you a better idea of the plans as they stand.
Is this plan one to amalgamate the (noseless) Lincoln bits that were reported for sale in the latest Flypast with one of those extended nose sections that still exist in Australia- if so it sounds like a brilliant plan, good luck to all involved!
Yes, they are apparently at Stafford now, Cosford was a short term storage point, a shame as a little green house on the side of the new cold war building could have been a brilliant ‘Spitfire Gallery’. (Bearing in mind they had probably six or seven on site from the very early mark one to a mark twentysomething  ).
Off to raid the loft for anything to swap for a PR19 🙂
I would guess a trip that far into France would suggest a Dak, and yes, it could be either of them by that time, hopefully!
🙂
Wow, good work John, saves me the trouble of going for the old ‘well I guess its blatant advertising but just as you asked’ type of comment 😀
If the mark I nose is used, would it be possible to create a ‘hybrid’ with the more modern, ergonomic, engine controls etc. Though not as original, could it be justified to make the aircraft safer to fly, given the operational problems already explained?
