While we are on the subject, this is kind of getting back to a recent request for a modelling section. After all, it is the same sort of thing as flight sims..
(with the bonus of fresh air and daylight 😮 , and the downside of no ‘reset flight’ button when things go wrong 🙁 )
..a ‘sub forum’ type of thing could be of interest to Historic, Commercial or Millitary ‘forumites’ and could cover things like plastic kits, corgi models as well as flying stuff.
I was away on holiday last time this cropped up, but I would be all for it 🙂
(It would save the obligitary apologetic ‘Its only R/c etc… 😉 )
Not a Spitfire but fun anyway…

notice at the end of the video… model air to air pictures 😀
(Model is a GWS model, a TM400, their bigger Tiger Moth- with alerons) 🙂
I might be barking up the wrong tree but..
I think the stripes on those late model spitfires have something to do with service in Hong Kong
I think you’re right. The only thing that gives it away is a slightly enlarged fin (though not as strange as the GWS fin looks) -I do wonder how long a slender four blade prop would last after all of those belly landings (flying styro wheels are just for show, so the model can look nice on your desk between flights), I break enough two blade ones myself!
More expensive than GWS is the ‘Flying Styro’ range of similarly sized electric models. They have excellent surface finish, it looks more like you are flying a well build airfix kit! (Oh yes, they make a very nice mark 9 Spitfire!)
The ‘warbirds’ are fine so long as you have a bit of aileron experience, the lighter rudder only models like the tiger moth and slow stick are so easy and relaxing you could fly them even if you had never seen an aeroplane before 😀
Have a look at http://www.fan-tasticmodels.com, they do lovely Migs, Sabres, Harvards and a GeeBee racer, all in foam, for GWS working parts. Also look up http://www.gws.com.tw, the official site, which has a link to another excellent gws forum on its front page.
I have often thought it would be nice to have a 9 ship gws tiger moth ‘diamond nine’ (I have one for starters 😀 ), flying around a small field at about walking pace!!
Could’nt agree more, GWS planes are a brilliant way of getting into (or back into 😉 ) flying r/c models. I have a half finished GWS Corsair that will probably fly in the spring (my Dad has the zero, I feel a dogfight coming on :diablo: )
They are not brilliant fine scale models, but are perfect for flying in small spaces and indulging in a bit of dogfighting!
PS. The new GWS Dakota looks very tempting!!!
Did you take any pictures of the Rapides 🙂
(Lovely pics by the way, nice day for it too 😎 )
Will (manning the Air Atlantique merchandise stand on Saturday, finding out why scorchingly hot days and thick, luxuroius tweed jackets don’t mix 😮 )
[QUOTE=Will J]Steady on ! Remember that …. etc etc QUOTE]
Ooops, sorry I did not mean to cause offence or wind anybody up 😉
Wow 😀
If its not American let it rot thats the rule i think 😀
Steady on ! Remember that Air Space is all about homegrown aviation, and as such tips the balance of Duxford’s displays back to how it should be 🙂 , the development of the AAM is great, and will be complimented by Air Space.
Very nice, it is always quite an experience getting a tour of a vulcan 🙂
PS. Is the Royal Navy Wessex a new addition, it struck me when I flew over a couple of weeks ago that there were more wessexes (sp 😀 😀 ) than I remember, a nice selection of colours too 🙂
Any info, cheers, Will (in classic eggbeater fan mood :p )
I suppose this weekend is a good time to go and ask.. 🙂
Speaking of which, it is surely time for a ‘who is at Duxford for the show’ type of thread…
I thought that the Victor was supposed to be part of the ‘Air Space’ display, but the plan on the official website does not include it 🙁 , it it going into the ‘conservation area’ part that is currently shown blank.
PS.. Any news on the fate of the Shackelton
Dan , the left hand side is looking good 🙂 , you even get the interesting chipped paint on the tail to play with 😀 . Here is the latest on my attempt at doing the right hand side, looking at the black and white photos it looks like the band behind the two rows of chequers is darker, probably olive drab, but this is only speculation!
