I’m afraid the chances of a Viscount entering our collection are rather remote at the moment, we have plenty keeping us busy!
Did somebody mention an Air Atlantique Viscount…..
….not part of our current plans, but in the future you never know. If the powers that distribute lottery money fancied another big aviation project after the Vulcan (you never know, you can but ask!) then maybe something like this that celebrates British civil aviation would fit the bill nicely!
PS. For anybody looking for a Viscount nose for a garden shed/exhibit, there is a fairly battered one at Hanningfield Metals, in Stock, Essex that would make a good starting point for a project! It was there a couple of months ago when I last looked!
G-AMRA (Dakota from Band of Brothers) can still be seen flying with Air Atlantique Classic Flight, in fact, members of the public can buy tickets for a ride 🙂
I think it is the effect you get where the edges of two of the hig res aerial photos are joined, the use a ‘feathered’ blurry edge so the line does not seem too sharp, which mans that things along the line can appear a bit odd, especially at a place like a museum where large outdoor exhibits may have moved in between the pictures being taken.
The aerial image of Baginton looks to have been taken in 2000/2001 ish, judging by the amount of Dakotas parked over at Air Atlantique, many have which have since found homes in museums, Shawbury Horsa Project, Elvington, Leystadt etc..
The electras you can see at the bottom of this image have now been replaced by another warehouse building.
Here is a Percival Pembroke’s eye view, taken this summer…..
When I dropped in a couple of months ago they said that they soon planned to specialise in film work only….
….I now just need a garden big enough for that Viscount nose 🙂
It is hard at this point to know what to say…
…apart from a huge thank you for so many memories, from one of the many thousands who at some point has been left standing, on a windswept airfield, staring at the sky and a Spitfire, mouth wide open, saying something along the lines of…. now that’s flying!
Thank you Ray!
More to follow tomorrow, it has been a very long day here!
In typical Air Atlantique fashion, within less than a couple of hours of landing at Baginton, the T4 was put to work, as a backdrop for UK TV Style’s ‘Style Secrets’ filming….. 🙂
After careful consideration….. several Gnats :diablo:
It looks right enough to me, but then again I rate the Fairey Gannet and Short Seamew as some of the world’s best looking aircraft!
Here is another shot taken on the way home from the 2005 Goodwood Revival.
Any ideas for captions, apart from the obvious Dakkadakkadakka….
I have to confess only vaguely recognising the name Roger Freeman until…
…mention was made of ‘The Mighty Eighth’, which I read cover to cover as a young kid and remember being captivated by it, it inspired me to find out a lot more about that era…
Just echoing the messages of condolence to friends and family.
There are no immediate plans to put them back together but its not out of the question should the need arise.
Tom.
Therefore any generous sponsorship deals for a formation team comprised entirely of small de Havilland jets should be sent to….
Is there not another Vampire (albeit in much further from airworthy condition) over in the shed Tom?
Maybee not quite as quiet as a normal October show…..(and before anyone asks, I don’t know any more than that!)
You might be right there Darren….. (mmmmmmmeteor 😀 )
