    Mankinds Destiny.

What you ask would happen in a perfect world……..but this place has never been and never will be, a perfect world, so I say, stop dreaming of nonsense like understanding this planet, and get on with what needs to be done. I know, I know…..sounds very caulus(sp) ………but I’v allways been a realist…….

Got too agree, we may be in danger of being wiped out in the future, if we don’t make an effort too reach for the Stars. Professor Steven Hawkins thinks the same way, time is not on our side. Earth shoudn’t be regarded as our permanent Home. Remember the Dinosaurs?, staying on this Planet is not a good idea, simply because it makes us vulnerable too whatever Nature can throw at us. 🙂

    Three Ship Vulcan Scramble

Does anyone remember watching a Two minute Three Ship Vulcan scramble at Farnborough back in the 60’s? Apparently the Vulcans were in a victory V formation during take off, This must have been mind blowing for those that experienced it. The noise must have been explosive, and the adrenalin must have been flowing in those spectators. I met a chap who saw that display of raw power, and he told me, he’s never seen anything since too match it. It really is sad that we no longer have the Vulcans too put on this sort of display . Surely too see the Three Crews running towards their waiting Aircraft, was a sight too behold. Carry on Vulcan we all LOVE you. Once again tears are running from my eyes. 😀 :diablo:

    Here comes a Canberra… wow!

    Look. here’s a Phantom! WOW !!

And here’s the Vulcan. *gulp* *tremble* I’m bloody glad he’s on OUR side !!

I’ve seen all sorts of aircraft over the years and I love em all, but the the Vulcan has a presence, a charisma and a sense of threat that others don’t. I’m confident that the youngsters will see what we all saw and it will take a very special place in their minds too. The only aircraft that comes close imho is the Lightning. (gives me serious wood!).

    Roy.

This is my whole point, these Aircraft make Airshows memorable, especially if you like the sound of the jet engine, each Aircraft has its own distinctive noise. 😀 But the Vulcan is as special as the B1, Awesome. What other plane looks like a huge Moth after takeoff. Kids love these moments, and I am as big a kid as any. :diablo: HEAVY METAL :diablo:

    I Love the Vulcan…

Ok I take your points on the Canberra, but those big Delta Wings. Bubble shaped Cockpit, 4 magnificent turbojets, huge Tail, fantastic Camoflage , huge intakes and finally that wonderfull flying display beat all the others hands down. This is my impression of a real Bomber. One final point, dosn’t the Vulcan look as good on the Ground as it does flying? Vulcan wins for me everytime. Lastly I had a chance too look inside the Nosecone at Airshows, climbing up that ladder into the Cockpit, with that Oily smell in your nose, and then sitting in the Ejector seat looking at the Radio equipment etc. That was heaven for me, sorry but I am a bit biased. 😀

    Anti Gravity Propulsion.

I think that the USA has some hidden secrets, which will come out in time. Anti Gravity propulsion systems, may well be under developed now. This would make getting too the Moon easy. Dont believe what the USA is showing now, will be the way forward. Don’t forget Russia, they are certain too follow the Space race. It is in the interests of both Countrys too spread disinformation, while keeping their hi Tech projects secret. Anti Gravity Propulsion is the way forward, not the old booster Rockets. Not only that, a completely revolutionary vehicle is certain to be developed, which may be similiar too a Flying Saucer. Also unmanned ships would be the way forward. I hope you don’t think I am going off the subject, it dosn’t hurt too speculate.I may be completely wrong on this, but who knows. The Moon is certainly mans first Hurdle in the Space Race, crack that one and the rest becomes a little easier. All this will certainly lead too great advances in technology, one follows the other. Perhaps Rocket technology is still on the cards, for temporary anyway. 🙂

I think it’s a pretty safe bet to assume that this spacecraft incorporates technologies that the USA would prefer not to share with other countries, which would make partnership more than a little difficult.

The USA is a single country whereas Europe is a continent comprising 45 (or so) sovereign nations with diverse languages and cultures. Roscoria’s comparison is not a valid one.

As an aside, it’s really rather naive to stereotype an entire continent, you know.

Yes there is no comparison between USA and Europe, USA is a united Country , Europe is divided. How can so many different countries come together too take on the USA, it wont happen because we don’t understand each other. So it’s over too the USA too show how it’s done. Stereotype an entire continent?, yes, let’s continue too fight amongst ourselves, we are good at that. 🙂

I can’t decide on one particular best or worst and some of my choices have already been mentioned so I’ll just list a few that haven’t been already.
    Best:
1:72 Spitfire Mk.1-the famous “AZ-H”-who here HASN’T built one? Still perhaps the most accurate looking 1:72 Spit on the market and an easy build.
1:72 B26 Marauder-easy to build, accurate and very decent interior detail for it’s age, complete with open bomb doors and a detailed bomb bay. Mine’s an old one that came with a stand- any chance they could start doing those again??
1:72 Fw190D-Perhaps overtaken by the latest ‘Tamigawa’s, but a simple kit that always turned out nicely and still looks good today.
1:72 Bf109K-Again like the Dora Nine, perhaps overtaken but still a good build and a nice model.
    Worst
1:72 P51D- Bad overall shape and the two fuselage halves were a different size!Ergh!
1:72 Hawker Typhoon-Oversized prop and spinner moulded as one and always warped, the cockpit canopy was a blob of clear plastic.
1:72 Folland Gnat-I never built this one as a kid so I don’t have the fond memories of it that others here seem to have. Perhaps it’s the age of the moulds but mine was warped all over the place and the wing joints were extremely poor.
    Most built:
1:72 Spitfires, both Mk.1 and Mk.V. I think I built three Mk.V’s in one go when I was a kid!

I sincerely hope Airfix will make a comeback, and I hope they’ll do the decent thing and bin the blatantly cr*p kits that give them such a bad name. They could also do with finding someone else to print thier decals for them, all Airfix kits I’ve bought in the last ten years have had absolutely awful decals, always printed off-centre and sometimes very brittle. Even some of the cr*pper kit makers (eg SMER) manage to supply very decent decals.

Problems like you have experienced didn’t bother me, because in my younger days I thought that was normal. Only later did I go to the Japanese Kits, for their superb quality. But surely, Airfix kits were meant for the younger constructor, as could be seen by their simplicity. I loved those Junkers German Bombers, with those incredible Camoflage paint schemes. 😀

    Vulcan XH558 Britains Plane.

The problem with this Country, and always has been is , if it costs too much don’t build it. We are now at the bottom of the export table, due too this attitude. Will we ever learn too stand proud and build something worth selling. We have lost out too foreign aircraft competitors, and as a result cannot ever go it alone again. I don’t want too go on and on about this, but please, lets just for once do something in this Country that we will be proud of, eg Restoration of this Vulcan. In my opinion the Vulcan is a very important Aircraft from a Cold War point of view. I have mentioned elsewhere of its role as a Nuclear Bomber. Surely, an Aircraft of this magnitude deserves too be recognised. It helped keep the piece, and that has too be remembered. Yes there were other Aircraft which also carried out this role, eg F111. BUT this is our Vulcan, built in Britain, designed in Britain. We are a funny lot , where has our Patriotism gone, we continue too question the relevance of this Planes future. Anyhow as far as I am concerned I don’t mind how much it costs, just get her Airworthy again. Thankfully there are still people around who still love our Country, I am one of them. Next year when we see this magnificent Plane flying at Airshows, we will remember for a few moments, how great this Country used too be.One final point, we are still fortunate too have Martin Baker still making Ejector seats, so it’s not all doom and gloom 🙂

    Inward looking Europe..

This is VERY good news!!! But I would hope that Europe will be in on this with us.

AS usual NASA will take the lead. Problem with Europe is it lacks imagination. It’s so locked into its Political structure, that it can’t see the Wood for the Trees… 🙂

    Our Future the Moon..

Mankind really has too explore space if his survival is to be guaranteed. As we explore the Moon, we will become a stronger species mentally. Dangers that the Astronaughts face will be relayed too us on earth, making us realise how fragile we really are. Once we are established on the Moon, the next step is further out, possibly too Mars. Each new step takes us further, then eventually we will leave this Solar system on a mission” too boldly go where no Man has gone before”. This will be very dangerous, by then we will be using thinking Computers, which will decide for us the best route, and keep us on course. Star trek type Spaceships will be used, and a new form of communication system which will be revolutionary.Impossible? it starts with NASA today. 🙂
