Any news as to when Ocean, Argus and Diligence come to the end of service? Is there any chance that one of the Bays may be converted to be a casualty Clearing Ship?
Ocean will go when the first QE2 class comes on line around 2018
The 2 extra OPVs are make work hulls built to plug the gap in orders until the T26 design is ready to be ordered. In all probability they will be built to the cheapest possible spec; so expect them to be the same or have minimal changes to the Rivers Batch 2 that are currently being built.
Yes I understand that. I am saying is if the sonar’s from the Hunt & Sandown classes will fit and work on a 90m hull then we should move on and build 12 more MHPC on that hull which in the long term could bring down logistics costs. dose anyone think a 2093 sonar could be deployed off a standard 90m OPV with a little work?
I would like to think that all 13 T26’s will be built as Jonesy has said and this is just away of not committing to them now.
As it now seems we are committed to five 90m OPV,s can this hull be fitted with the Hunt class type 2193 sonar or the Sandown class type 2093 sonar. If so then I think the UK should commit to building a further 12 90m,s over a 12 year period modified to have a telescopic hangar which can work as a mission bay giving the navy 17 multi mission hulls

As much as I like the Khareef Class Corvette ( as this is a up scale 90m OPV) I hope people don’t think it can replace a frigate role for role I would like to see 24 Frigate & Destroyers and then push on with the MHCP program based on the 90m OPV’s as it looks like we will have 5 new OPV’s with the talk of 2 more as a follow on to the 3 batch 2’s under way now
Pete Kynsey must have good log book by now must have top UK hours on Tigercat
Andy Dixon must be a contender for DC-3/C-47 Dizzy shared the Dak flying with Peter
Ray and Mark Hanna had a good number of hours on spits and 109
What if the French were the ones who fought in WWII? Done faster?
Low very Low hang your head
Please recommission Ark Royal we were lucky to still have Invincible and any large scale attack on the main land would have dragged Brazil and Peru in. Peru were already to come in if asked.
what fighter were on the Island ? that is a MB339
Actually they had 2 KC-130s. And if you use 20+ packages in air to air it means means dropping 60+ fuel tank on anti-cruze missions. How many of them are they going to carry?
The range of the F5E isn’t better than the range of the Mirage III/Dagger, so why you expect a different result is beyond me.
As long as they don’t park their aircrafts on the Falklands they’re toast, just like in real 1982
Nic
20+ package is A-4s not carrying out A2A 5 KC-130s would allow refuelling out and in which allows for change of attack profiles the change to F-5 is just to change it up due to France not selling Mirage 111 and it being a likely type that could be operated also with more refuelling for the A-4’s it would push the carriers further out to sea which would give the F-8’s less time on CAP
Let get back to what if. Argentina have 50 F-5E’s and the A-4’s they also have 5 KC-130’s allowing larger attack packages. F-5’s operating in flights of 4 configured with 3 drop tanks and 4 AIM-9’s A-4’s operating in pairs and fours in 20+ packages to give the F-8 CAP’s a pain
For me forget 5th gen go with what they have and add to it
1 bring the F-16 fleet up to 36 airframes
2 buy 16 FA-50’s to go with the T-50’s
3 add 6 SU-30’s to the flanker fleet
Have a the same data link fitted to all types and train to fight with mixed types just as the US & UK will do with 5th gen 4th gen types
as more kit is exported we will see how it stacks up. F-7 has had mixed feed back however Jf-17 seems to be on track and again we will know more as it is deployed on over sea ex’s to places like Turkey a number of countries are now buying Frigates and Corvettes so we will just have to see
Iran just came back inthe “concert of nations”. I doubt they will quickly rebuild their air force.
if Iran start this year it will take between 7 and 10 year to replace the currant fleet however within 2 year they could have 40 new air-frames
So the way I see it Iran’s best way forward will be a mix of Russian and Chinese kit as I said before do a deal with China/Pakistan to build 120 JF-17’s in Iran and have 30 delivered from Pakistan or China. Buy 60+ SU-30’s from the Russians also look into 40+ Yak-130’s in the training A2G role in support of the Fast jets 12 ll-78 Tanker/transports and 15 to 20 An-32 and maybe 6 AEWaC
