Here is a photo I took nearly a year ago. Two rarities together on the military side of Brazzaville. I was not able to get any closer, and was operating my little point and shoot camera at maximum range. Hence the not so clear picture. Sitting there is what I believe is the last complete Canadair CL44 and an AN-8
These two shots are of the scrapyard on the western side of Addis Ababa in the autumn of 2007.

Again, these are shot through the dirty sidewindows of a moving aircraft, so are not really clear.
Unfortunately, I´ve not been able to get close enough to the eastern scrapyard at Addis. They have some interesting stuff there, DO-28 (several) DC-3/C-47s and load of other stuff.
I´ve been photographing old abonded aircraft on airfields around the world. Most of them are taken through the window of a moveing aircraft, and are of questionable quality, but at least I have a picture of some of the relics that litter the aprons around the world.
To start of, last March I took this picture of Douglas DC-7C EC-BSQ that was standing at Las Palmas airport and had been there for years. It has now been scrapped.
And that is correct:D
Have you all ground to a stop then??
John, you are on the right track with Belgium:D
I think the fin in the water story is really Jungman/Jungmeister in Algers harbour after the war. IIRC flown by a guy from Portugal. Happy to be corrected, as always!
With pagen´s permission, I´m going to post this picture. It is all to easy, I´m afraid, for this audience;) It is, however, the best I can come up with in:o
I understand that NACA or Bell Aircraft secured a set of plans.
Phil Rhodes
I think that will be news to a lot of people that have spent decades researching the aircraft.
I think the aircraft we are scratching our heads over, is a Blackburn L1B Bluebird III modified to take an inline engine, possibly a Gipsy. Some were apparantly modifed with different engines. As can be seen on the photo, the original aircraft probably had a radial engine judging by the panels aft of the engine.
Might be wrong though:D:D
Going OT for a while now:D
Yes they did use the Ö in the registration. There were two aircraft “registered” with that letter. First was TF-ÖRN, a Waco YKS-6, which was operated by Flugfélag Akureyrar and later by Flugfélag Íslands. It started flying in 1937. The other one was TF-ÖGN. You may have noticed, that I put registered with brackets. They were not registered as such, as the Icelandic CAA didn´t come into being until 1946. I think it was just a matter of painting something on the side. The TF came into fashion because it was the callsign of Iceland Radio at the time, IIRC the callsign was TF-A. All Icelandic ships at the time equipped with a radio had the callsign TF- and two letters, TF-XX for example. So when the aircraft came around, it got TF-XXX. What letters were used, was presumably not of great importance to them at the time, and they put what ever looked good on the side. TF-ÖRN being TF-Eagle, and TF-ÖGN being TF-Small!!
TF-ÖGN has now been removed from the rafters of the Terminal, and is back in the care of it´s owners The Icelandic Historical Aviation Society. It was displayed at the Reykjavík Airshow last spring, and my 10 year old daughter took these pictures of it there.

Back on topic now:D
Absolutely not TF-ÖGN:D
I just saw it now. But I´ll destroy it by making this post:D:D I do not count posts, and do not care how many I´ve got. Look, I´ve been here since 2000 and have only got the “magic” 1000. You´ve been here a lot shorter time:cool:
My next post is ready;) I just don´t want to jump the gun on anyone:D
wout,
The rules of the game as stipulated in the first post, is that the first one to positively identify the aircraft in photo gets the right to post a new challange. You are being a bit too eager in your posts. If you correctly identify an aircraft, you get the right to post a picture.
Some of what has been posted is indeed geek stuff:D:D:D
The list of scrapped artifact Tangmere posted is astonishing:eek: When did this happen? In the early 90´s, when people should have known what they were throwing away?
Sorry list indeed:mad:
