The G59 was here in 95, 96 & 2000, if I remember correctly – not sure about 94. Otherwise, I’m fairly sure it was only here for those years. Happy to stand corrected!
I guess you are right, Elliott Marsh. I’ll withdraw my comments, attend and have a great time! 🙂 I hope you all do too!!! …
No need to withdraw the comment, we’re all entitled to our opinions!:)
The Vulcan’s one day appearance is a nice compromise – just hope the show’s blessed with some decent weather this year! Last year was a good show but it wasn’t half dull over the top!
Excellent news and a massive well done to all involved!
News update & a nice photo here, too – http://globalaviationresource.com/v2/2013/06/10/news-dornier-17-raised-from-the-english-channel-100613/
The line-up is much like any other year! Don’t get me, wrong, it is a nice friendly and open show but, really, how about something different and, Amarok is right, if it is to be a Dambuster’s anniversary where are the Dambusters other than the Lanc that goes to pretty much every show elsewhere too!!
RR
The Skytrain, Thunderbolt, TF-51, Hurricane Mk.X, Sea Fury, Strikemaster, Hunter, Sabre & Sea Fury are all types which either haven’t appeared for several years or are débuting at Shoreham. Yes, there’s a lot of familiarity on the list – as there always is at Shoreham, and as there is for pretty much every British airshow – but there’s also plenty going to keep things fresh. I think it’s looking cracking at this stage and generally, even the familiar acts are ones which always put on a great display.
They’ve mentioned elsewhere that the Vulcan’s appearance is pending sponsorship etc., so it’s not like they’re neglecting it – after all, it’s been there for the last few years, might freshen things up a bit for it to miss 2013…:D
Terrific job by all involved – loads more photos on GAR, thanks largely to our man Huw Hopkins and his tremendous eye!
Tonight’s Global Aviation Resource article on the Eagle Squadron is now live – photographs from the whole weekend from a whole range of angles (including Saturday’s practice, Sunday’s airshow display and Monday’s commemorative flypast), images from Madingley, archive photographs and comments from Dan Friedkin & Bud Anderson. Hope you’ll take a minute to have a read!
Some more photographs on GAR from today’s Eagle Squadron practice. As DCW says – just superb.
Full details of the Eagle Squadron formation – including aircraft histories, pilot details and an overview of the weekend’s plans – can be found in the Global Aviation Resource profile below. This should be pretty special…
IWM don’t want the flypast timings published in the piece itself, but the NOTAMS posted in this thread should give a good indication of where you want to be and when. Here’s hoping for blue skies, sun, and excellent, safe flying all weekend.
That’ll be Plane Sailing’s Cat heading to La Ferté-Alais!
Lovely stuff as always, chaps! Hoping the weather holds for Snafu to get to La Ferte-Alais later this week!
If I may do a little ‘shameless promotion’, I’ve written an article on the 1942-45 history of the 78th Fighter Group, the ‘Duxford Eagles’; particularly appropriate given the forthcoming Duxford Spring Airshow, and indeed, Snafu’s involvement. To me, it’s what that weekend’s all about – remembering. Take a look if you have a few minutes…
DCW has very kindly allowed the use of his photographs for this here news item on Princess Elizabeth’s reassembly – http://globalaviationresource.com/v2/2013/05/10/remembering-the-mighty-eighth-pt-2-p-51c-mustang-princess-elizabeth-reassembled-at-duxford/.
Interesting to note that both Princess Libby and Moonbeam McSwine were flown by William Whisner… The latter Mustang has recently been reassembled itself in the south of France. You know what I’m getting at here. Grey/Akary pt3. In blue nosers. Someone make it happen! :very_drunk:
DCW… You have mail! 😉
The May list looks decent – the warbird content appeals – but as Mike says, it’s the usual Duxford line-up at this stage.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m looking forward to the Eagle Squadron formation (that should be pretty special if it all comes off) and seeing Princess Liz – unquestionably my favourite P-51 – back in the UK will be a delight.
But it could use some more meat on the bones if you ask me…
Presumably one of the two Gnats delivered to the Gnat team at North Weald today – I think there may be photographs on their Facebook page, but I can’t access that at work. I know they’d said yesterday that they were expecting them to arrive by road today.
Quite amazing to think that there could soon be 10 Hurricanes flying in Europe, once the Thruxton ones (P2902 & the MkXII, I think) fly. Of course that assumes the French one is going to an owner who’ll fly it, and putting aside the usual caveats. A big gathering would be pretty special!
