As a bit of shameless self-promotion, I posted a large thread here detailing my Friday experience a while back. ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ve only been doing the three days for the past couple of years and can’t recommend it enough. Can’t speak for the pre-2008 Fridays, but I’ve always been lucky in seeing a full day of flying. What’s great is that many of the aircraft that display on the Friday are involved in multi-aircraft sequences over the weekend, so you get to see them from a different perspective. There’s just a wonderful atmosphere at Duxford on that day.

Quite the collection they have at Bremgarten! Great to see the European warbird scene thriving (if that’s the right word – I suppose, relatively speaking, it could be argued so) with aircraft being bought from overseas and being sold within the continent.

Hard to say as obviously they are new builds but a Bearcat is faster than a genuine Fw190 A8.

Indeed, the Bearcat has some 2,100hp to play with compared to the original FW-190’s 2,000hp (with boost). Maximum speed-wise, the Bearcat pips it at 421mph to the FW-190’s 408mph (with boost), so quite similar in those respects. From memory, the Bearcat’s rate of climb is almost 2:1 to the Focke Wulf’s – something like 4,500ft a minute to the ‘190’s 2,570ft!

Once the FlugWerk machines have been worked up to a full aerobatic routine, I’d be very interested to hear how to two compare – or indeed, how they compare with any other warbirds of that era.

I always remember (around 95/96) the OFMC Iraqi Fury doing a fantastic routine with the Bearcat (),

If the A8 could match those two I can see why we needed the Mk 9 Spit ๐Ÿ˜‰

I seem to remember it happening a few times – Flying Legends ’95, I believe it was Ray Hanna and Stephen Grey. The routine was repeated in ’96 with the addition of Paul Bonhomme in TFC’s second Bearcat – just superb! There may have been a Bearcat/Fury duo (OFMC & Paul Morgan) tailchase in ’98, but my memory is a little hazy on that one, might’ve just been the Furies.

    Sorry, got sidetracked there. ๐Ÿ˜€

That’s a terrible thing to say! Wasn’t it Joe public that has been sponsoring the Vulcan to fly? What about the air displays and hangar tours.. no major ceo dropping million dollar cheques in the box rather it was joe public dropping money in the box..!

Only a very small percentage (can’t remember the figures, but it wasn’t many thousand) of airshow goers have actually donated to the campaign, in 2008/9 anyway. The figures suggestthat the majority of donations came from enthusiasts, a fair few of whom had repeatedly pledged or donated. Sure, it’s likely that a fair few people threw a few coins into the bin on their way past the Vulcan Village, but I don’t think you can say that the Vulcan has been hugely popular with the general public – certainly not enough for them to have donated significant sums of money.

They simply have more important things to worry about – after all, why would a family who has already paid for two adults and two children want to donate another tenner towards an aircraft they couldn’t care less about?

That’s the harsh truth of it, I’m afraid. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be in this situation.

Assume he was referring to the full participants list on the website (first post) under “Performers and Attractions”.

    7 B17s, B24, Me262, Bf109, 6 P51s (inc. the Horsemen), 2 B25s, Super Hornet…quite the show right there!

    I echo Daz’s sentiments. ๐Ÿ˜€

Tempted to do a North Weald/Duxford/Old Warden triple header on Saturday, the Buchon going on public display again would be the icing on the cake.

If anyone knows of when she’s likely to be returned to hangar 3, please do let me know. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Prop Strike – Thank you kindly; it’s something that’s been asked a fair bit and we’ve discussed it. If there was sufficient demand, if we could square it away politically with the contributors (predominantly photographers), and if we could make it work financially, there’s definitely a good chance of it happening in future. That sounds like a lot of “ifs” but the big one is money. I’d hope it’s a concept we could seriously consider.

It’s frustrating, but it occurred late in the day and with 18 April set as the publishing deadline (and well promoted as such), we didn’t want to delay further. I guess it’s a reason to revisit it in future!

Not sure why the forum insists on dropping posts to the second page when you edit the original post, but… bump.
