Fascinating story. Thanks for sharing it, and you deserve all the fun you can get out of the Rearwin. It owes you.
Mexicanbob was lucky to fly in the Pin, and from its birthplace too. Wonder what it was doing there?
Anyone know?
The Pentax DSLR takes the old K mount lenses. As Ive still got my old Me Super with a couple of good lenses, that’s the chap for me-just as soon as the wifie opens the purse far enough…….
Had a shot of my mates Fuji S5500, but for fast moving objects, I found it impossible with the small digital viewfinder, and couldnt focus it on them either.
I am sick of hearing all the sniping about the 558 situation.
If she flies, it will be a major triumph, and I will cheer her along. I really hope she makes it back in the air. If she doesn’t, well too bad, but at least somebody was willing to give it a go-more than I would have the b*lls to do.
Its easy to be an armchair expert from the security of your own keyboard and give umpteen reasons why it wont work. What I cant work out is why so many people who are clearly passionate about historic aviation seem to delight in their percieved reasons why it wont happen.
That is Gold!
Would this be the beastie I saw flying over Edinburgh today, heading for East Fortune?
It was a bit far away to see clearly, but looked all white with marking on the nose, under the cockpit.
Nice.
No it wasn’t.
She was at Leuchars a while before that. I’ve got photos somewhere.
Exactly my thinking Ren-and they do become outmoded very quickly.
Guess I’ll just have to keep dropping coins in my jam jar for a bit longer!

None of this went on when there was corporal punishment in schools?
Don’t make me laugh!
I can remember those days, and you can’t…. and you’re wrong Comet. It went on then, too.
I know this from firsthand experience of going to a school where corporal punishment was frequently applied for even the most trivial offences, whereas you only have your prejudices and misguided beliefs to fall back on.
What was different about those days was the lack of mass-media to glamourise such activity and make it fashionable and attractive to the dull-witted or, on the other hand, to whip up fear, loathing and hysteria among the timorous and vengeful.
I too grew up in these days, and was subjected to the belt on numerous occasions. I got it for talking in class, being late, for various other minor indiscretions and at one point had my head bashed off a blackboard.
Did it teach me anything? Nope. Did it change my behaviour? No. The thugs and bullies were around then, and corporal punishment made no difference to them. Some even seemed to take a macho delight in taking the whack.
I dont know what the answer is to all this. As a parent I’ve been firm but fair with my own kids, and find that reasonable discussion with them brings better results than any other approach.
I do despair at the ease with which kids can get access to material they should not be able to see, and its not an easy task preventing this.
Television, the internet, mobile phones with internet access, other kids of course, all carry the risk of this sort of access, and you cant just separate them from it, only hope that you can educate them to the risks as best you can. Not as easy as it was in my younger years when there was one telly with 3 channels, parentally controlled.

The fact that everyone seems to be talking about it makes it a very clever piece of marketing.
They were discussing it on GMTV this morning and on my local radio station-no doubt others up and down the country too.
Love it or hate it, the guy promoting it must be rolling in the pennies.

Are there issues with dust when you change lenses?. Not a big deal with my film SLR but I gather it can cause problems with digi’s.
