Aren’t there problems about private collections owning ex RAF Phantoms because of SALT treaty or something of that nature?
Check out the Museum of Flight website for details. Its BOAA, and its going there in the Spring.:D 😀 😀 😀
Mines a Cambrian 1;8th with SC40 up front. Just rebuilt the front end after a vertical landing. Took the opportunity to tart up the paintwork and give it a bit of detail work-hence my question.
Really enoyed building it. It was my first attempt, and it hung in my garage for a year after the previous “arrival” because I didnt want to risk it!:)

It’s my favourite because, its gorgeous and it’s mine!! Proud of it, after 11 months hard graft it is now ready to fly.
Superb job Chris.
Like the panel lines-how did you manage to get that worn paintwork look along the seams.? I had to resort to aluminium paint and masking tape on mine, but somehow it doesnt look quite right.
Does this mean the Shackletons got a reprieve from the reaper then?
I used my 1;24th Spit as a fan in my garden shed. Had it fitted with an electric motor out of a Volvo headlamp wiper, powered by a train set transformer-until one day I turned it up too far………..
Tamiya 1/48th Lanc. Ive got 3 of them hanging in my garage!
Cheers Adam!:D
looked pretty complete to me. No obvious holes or anything, but I didnt have a long time to look. Seemed to be reasonably dry as well, but I’m not an expert, and as I say, it was a few years back.
East Fortune is “listed”, which means its a historic site and you can’t put up any new buildings. As the old lady is too big for the hangars on site, she sits out in the cold.
Dont know if they power up the electrics-cant remember if anthing was lit up when I visited the inside a few years ago.
All I get to see here on Edinburgh approach is 737’s 757’s, Airbuses, and the occasional Concorde!
597 sits in the same position she has since she arrived in 1983, and as far as I know, has never been run up since then. MOF do the best they can to keep her respectable and have allowed visitors in the cockpit on special days. Been there myself and its impressive. Wish they could get her in out of the cold, but that’s another story.
Kostas, youre a lucky man getting to phix Phantoms for a living.
Those modern pointy jets just dont have the same magic about them.
Better, but not as better as four Lancs!:D
So, thats it all over then.
Another great British institution bites the dust.
I suppose the only other example of Brit lateral thinking still flying is our old friend, the Harrier.
Once its American replacement comes into service, we’ll all be crying in our beer again.
