Thanks Glen, sounds good, date added to diary! 🙂
Brilliant. Can’t wait to see it for real! Do we have a date for Kemble 2005 yet? Time to start planning next years days out 🙂
Brilliant. Thanks for posting!!
Really like the Red Bull scheme, an aircraft’s history does not end when it retires from military service and I see no problem with civil schemes, especially when they are as stunning as this one. Given our often less than stellar summer weather I can see why an operator would want such a scheme, rather than something that simply confirms the effectiveness of mid grey as camouflage in the European theatre.
Personally I’d be happy to see the Lancaster painted in one of the immediate post war colours, the white upper surfaces would make a change from the usual wartime camouflage. As for commercial sponsors logos on PA474…. well I guess I’d draw the line there!
Very impressive Dave, just shows its the operator, not the programme that makes all the difference!
Spent most of Sunday trying to avoid getting fire engines, cars and spam cans in the background of the photos, but they always manage to sneak in somewhere!! 😀
Looks like its been there some time PDS, the passenger door is missing too! Don’t know if its really that close to the runway or if its just the compression effect of the long lens. Anyone remember the ‘illegally parked car routine’ they used to do at Yeovilton? Perhaps that will be its ultimate fate!
Thanks! A few more of the historic types….

Start with your local police station, they have all the contacts for this sort of thing.
Years ago I had a summer job as a warden on a nature reserve that had been used for testing ordinance during the war. Bombs and rockets used to turn up on a weekly basis as the wind and tides moved the sand dunes around. 😮 We used to have the number for the navy bomb disposal teams pinned on the notice board by the phone!
Funny they never mentioned this when I went for the interview!!
No, no Mustangs at all I’m afraid! (but given the forecast I wasn’t surprised!)
What an amazing collection, must admit I didn’t even know it existed!
Thanks for posting them Septic, another place to try and visit one day 🙂
No mustang today Stewart, BBD was not able to make it, and the Buchon was being worked on in the hangar. Should make a good start to next season 🙂
Looks even better from up there (and it looked very good from ground level too! :D)
Thanks for posting them username, here’s a couple of you, watching us, watching you….
Seem to recall the Sunderland in an episode of Tenko, set after VJ day as the women were attempting to return to their pre war lives….
Should be there, all being well, cannot imagine this will be the last chance visit for over 6 months 🙁
Hope the forecast picks up though, not looking too good for this weekend at the moment.
Nice shots there Pimpernel, bet you got some good video footage!
Last flypast by the Lanc was at 16:27, landed at 16:32, shut down and aircrew off by 16:36 (isn’t digital good for keeping track of these things 😀 )
