All modern jet tankers on the market are better than a Victor or KC-135 in all respects that count.

yeah i know… but the old ones look better and sound better… a Airbus is a airliner to me, at least taking the windows out of a 707 made it look military. and the Victor looked like a bomber. please forgive me tonight i am in one of them moods….

what about buying some ex-USAF KC-135s off the yanks.. take away the boom and replace that with a 3 point hose n drogue. i think there are countless examples in the US boneyards.. or even better BRING BACK THE VICTOR…. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Sea Vixen, there’s no such thing as passive weight gain from seeing eating a man eating a full English. As for lorries and cars, one can argue that at least a motor vehicle produces pollution as a negative by – product of useful activity. What useful activity (other than an enjoyable high) does smoking generate???

when i see someone eating a full english… i want one.. you know the smell of the bacon and that… so in a way that is passive weight gain.. 😀 😀 😀

if they stopped all non-essential car journeys there wouldent be half as many on the roads. some people i know will drive to the shop 200 yards from there house to get a pint of milk…

i do agree in a way with you but other peoples cars kill non-drivers.. but i cant see people shouting BAN CARS.. by the way i am a cautious smoker, i do not light up eny where, if i am with a group of non-smokers i wont smoke, my girlfriend is pregnant, i will not smoke near her. smokers today are almost labelled as someone who dont care about other people.. its not true in most cases…

i do not want to start a argument over smoking. i am a smoker and i do agree banning smoking in certain places like public transport and certain pubs. but a total all out ban in public is ridiculas, what is wrong in pubs and clubs having a smoking room like they used too, is there going to be a total ban on mobile phones in public or 2 days a week ban all non important cars from the roads…… most people stand back and watch us completley destroy our planet. it is such a huge issue this banning smoking in public but noboby gives a toss about the rain forest being cut down or the polar ice cap melting. also i think taking away somebodys right to smoke is the same as taking away someones right to eat and drink in public… i mean fatty foods can kill you right.. and on the passive smoking issue… what about all these cars and lorries on the roads and factorys belching out pollution.. are we going to ban them as well…..

leasing 8 aircraft with 5 in stand by to cover the whole of the RAFs tanking needs is ridiculas. i think 20 to 25 would be more exceptable. the transport fleet is over worked enough at the momment. it comes to something when the once mighty RAF has to lease aircraft from private operators because they are not allowed to buy them outright. what is this world coming too.
my answer would be re-build 10 or 15 VC-10s as well.. the same sort of thing they are doing to the Nimrod. although not as extensive. give them some new powerplants and do a life extention program. this could give them another 20 years service.
ok a lot of you would say this would not be very practical, it would probably cost more then buying new Airbuses. but at least the vikis would be around for years to come…… 😉

i think the main reason why they only lasted 15 years was there limited capability. also Russias big carrier was nearing completion. i often wonder how capable the Yak-38 really was. it had limited range, very limited weapon load and they must have been a nightmare to mantain. at the end of the day i think the Forger was a mere stop gap until the much better Yak-141 “which never came” and the conventional carrier borne aircraft came along. another reason why i think this is there was very little development on the original design, that seems unusal for Soviet/Russian aircraft….

i would much rather see a NF Meteor in pink with blue dots, then not to see one at all. i think all these people who moan and groan about right and wrong paint jobs should spend some time working in a aircraft museum, they could then see for themselves the hard and painstaking work that needs to be done keeping these magnisifent pieces of aviation history, on small budgets.. i for one think the Meteor looks fantastic…
