Steve Irwin was one in a million. he was one of the few that relised there is only one deadly animal on this planet, they are called Homo Sapians. has he said hundreds of times in his programs snakes will only bite if they really have to, the main use of there venom is for catching food. a crocodile or aligator will attack you if you stupid enough to swim in there domain or as a defence. most if not all animal attacks on humans are the fault of the human or accidents. most so called deadly animals would run a mile from a human if they had a chance. i think Mr Irwin tried to show us this in his antics. it was just a great shame one of these accidents took his life. its not only Australia that has lost a great bloke but the world..

the Soviets had the same problems protecting there Bombers as NATO did, they even tried the parasite fighter concept, a modified Mig-19 strapped to a Tu-95, like the USA this never came to much. it was clear by the mid-60s that the Tu-95, Tu-16 and M-4 would be sitting ducks as a free fall bomber. they did use jamming and ECM, it was hoped the Tu-22s supersonic dash capability would be a useful defence, the use of stand off missiles also increased there chances. i dont think the USSR had eny effective long range escort fighters, the Fiddler was itself a bomber killer, totally useless against other fighters. just like NATO in the 60s, the use of large numbers of bombers fitted out with up to date jamming and ECM equipment was the Soviets only way to protect its bomber fleets.

i think all of us will have different opinions on what aircraft is beautiful or not… my opinion is … the Americans have not made a nice looking aircraft since the F-111. though saying that what Country has.. the best looking “modern” types are the Swedish Gripan and the Typhoon, the rest look boring. i do not agree when some of you say British aircraft are ugly, to my eyes enyway Great Britain made some of the finest looking areoplanes ever,,, like.
    Spitfire
    Mosquito
    Beaufighter
    Sunderland
    Tempest
    Hunter
    Canberra
    Vulcan
    Buccaneer
    Lightning
    Harrier
all beautiful looking aircraft and unique in there design. the only other country who made beautiful looking aircraft was the Soviet Union, who made some real beautys,,, like.
    Farmer
    Firebar, Brewer
    Flagon
    Foxbat
    Flogger,, 23 and 27
    Foxhound
    Blinder
    Backfire
    Fitter
the Americans did make some fine looking aircraft but it is now lost, instead we have the ugly and boring types they use today, though i do quite like the F-15 and the B-1. but there best had to be the.
    Mustang
    B-17
    Super Sabre
    Tundercheif
    Vigilante
    Skywarrior
    Hustler
    Phantom
    F-111
    nearly forgot,, Sratojet
the only French types i like is the Vautor, Mirage F-1, 4000, IV-P..

i must be honest i have mixed feelings about this.. living in Herefordshire we have got a huge number of imigrant workers mostly Eastern European working on the many fruit farms here. the trouble is most British people dont want to “pick fruit” for a living, as we seem to think this sort of work is below our standards. so as the saying goes “someone has to do it”. but walking around the high street on a Saturday afternoon and every other person you see speaks a foreign language worrys me a little. i think there should be more controls over the numbers and make sure most of our Eastern European freinds return home and help there Countrys healing process.

i can remember well when i was a child during the mid to late 80s, we lived in a village about 5 miles from the city.. the sights of Phantoms, Tornados, Harriers [ GR-3s at first then GR-5s ] Jaguars the occational Buccaneer and Canberra as well as USAF A-10 Warthogs flying at almost tree top level was fantastic. now i live in the city now so the only low level aircraft i see is Helicopters.. but the contryside is only a mile or so away so i dont have to go far to see low flying jets… i can remember seeing loads of Hawks as well and helicopters of all sorts. one sighting i remember very well was one morning i counted 12 Hercs one after another at about 500ft, smoke belching out of there exhausts right over our house. those where the days. i cant wait to see a low Typhoon over here.. 😉

when i was young i always got confused with the way we gave designations to exported aircraft.. types like Hunter Fmk-53, what was the Saudi Lightnings Fmk-55 or something.. i used to think how come the RAF uses Fmk-6s while we sold mk-55s to the Saudis 😀 😀 😀 .. why did the MOD use such designations…

i agree that the Earth has under gone massive climate changes during its 4.5 billion year life, but these apart from huge episodes of volcanism or massive astorids hitting usually take many thousands or millions of years to develop, in the short time we humans have been around, the Earth has completly changed. since the industrial revoloution the amount of pollution we have dumped in the atmosphere, oceans and the amount of forest cleared must have done some damage. the air we breath and the world we live on is very fragile. we may not be totally to blame, but our action is certainly not helping matters..

that is a very good question… i would think for WW2 types it would be between the Spitfire, Mosquito, ME-109, JU-88.. for jet types i would think the MIG-21 would be head and shoulders above the rest, though i may be wrong.. 🙂
