you have got to remember the Belfast was a British design, it was withdrawn as a cost cutting measure, in other words there was nothing wrong with it, just costs a lot off money too operate. the reason why the RAF stuck with the herc was probabley for the cost to buy one Belfast they could buy 2 or 3 hercs. a typical example why the once great industry in this country has died a death a Samari warrior would have been proud of.
on the good side, it is great to talk to people who share a love for avaition, people who shares there knowlage about subjects, hearing other peoples opinion on matters.
on the bad side, the piontless arguing between members that draws other people into the fray, everyone is entiteled to his or her opinion, its the whole piont of a forum….. oh yea and people who picks me up on my spelling. 😀 😀 😀
the Scimitar, ranks to me as Britains most forgotten jet aircraft. ok so they was not in service for long but they look fantastic, what did there pilots think off them, was it a good deign or not.
Now thats interesting, is that Civi one still flying in France???
one of the most forgotten cold war aircraft i know, why was this?. from what i can gather the Vautor was not a bad design, i suppose they are quite popular in France and maybe Isreal. probably they got overshadowed by the legendary Mirage deltas. i have always had a soft spot for the old Vautor though, a strange cross between a Yak-28 and a B-47 !!!!. how many variants did they make, i know they made a interceptor and bomber version, when was the last retired.. a few pics of this old classic would be great.. 😉
i watched that American Haunting tuther night, its a film you really have to sit down and watch, quite good i thought, if a bit weird, shocking twist at the end as well.. i would give it about 7 out of 10.
had a great night last week, watched John Carpenters The Fog and The Thing one after the other. now they are what i call good films. 11 out of 10 the both… 🙂

the Lightning is gorgeous. to be honest there is not many aircraft i do not think is beautiful, the early bi-planes have there own sort of beauty, the 1930s, 40s aircraft design became elegant with the arrival of the monoplanes, then came the jets, sleek, gleaming, stylish.
even though aircraft design has changed so much during its history, aircraft still amaze and look beautiful.
this is the best i could do, i just have so many.
British… Sea Vixen, Buccaneer, Victor, VC-10
Russian… Su-15, Tu-128, Tu-22,
American… F-105, F-106, B-58
rest of world… Mirage IV-A, Saab Draken, Saab Viggen, Vautor..
when i was younger and built aircraft models i did sometimes go a bit silly.. i can remember fixing some AIM-9s to my Canberra PR-9, Falcons on my NF-14 Meteor, but the best had to be the F.MK-6 Lightning i had, in a state of madness i fixed 2 Sparrows to the Red Top pylons and made up double Sindwinder plylons and fixed them under the wing, it looked quite good, oh and my RA-5C Vigilante once carried 4 2000lb pavways !!!!!!!!!.
just watched X-MEN 3.. not a bad film but not brilliant, about a week ago i watched Silent Hill, started off really good but sort of lost its way by the end, a bit spooky and weird but not that scary..

is it just me or do some aircraft look ugly but gorgeous at the same time, like the A-10, Hurcules, An-22, Gannet, Nimrod, Il-28, F-89, A-7, Me-110, Ju-87, Stirling, Whitley. to name just a few…
the Soviets never felt confidant about there bombers until the arrival of the Tu-160, but the Blackjack came too late.. sods law or what. we have to remember the days of stratigic bombers lumbering, loaded up with bombs, miles into hostile airspace was obsolete by the end of WW-2, it was tried in Korea and Vietnam but with little effect, just like the battle ship that went before, heavy bombers are just too easy to destroy, loads of fire power but sitting ducks to enything but poorley defended airspace. i think if eny conflict haapend in the early 60s all heavy bombers on both sides would have been shot out of the sky within days. when low level “under the radar” tactics was applied and better defencive aids in the late 60s things would have been better, but it was still hit and miss.. until the arrival of decent stand off weapons in the 70s and 80s did eny large bomber stand a chance of surviving…..
bloody hell, we would have had to arm our typhoons and thunderbolts with trip wires instead of rockets, if that was the case…. good job the junkers ju-400 death star was never completed… 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
