The Russians also stirred up the pot when their Fulcrum arrived in the west during an international air show with IRST. You can be assured they are known for such technology.
What technology? Huh not getting into a argue, but they are known for their planes doing those fancy shmansy cobra, kulbit stunts etc.
It’s always a Nertherlands F-16 pic.

Except they’ve been using a helmet mounted cueing system and off-boresight missiles way before the US did.
Here’s your sign…
Ok, but still they are not known for that technology. Like i said they are mostly known for nuclear weapons and there Sukhoi planes.
If you didn’t know Flanker had HMS then how do you know they’re not as advanced as American ones?
Beacuse the Russians are not known for advanced technology. They are know from nuclear weapons and their Sukhoi planes.
The Flanker pilot can use a HMS, the Sura-K HMS to be precise, and the Chinese have their own version of a HMS.
Huh, never knew they had HMS. But they aren’t as advanced as the U.S. JHMCS. But the Chinese have may have advanced ones but there close from the U.S. JHMCS.

I think a brand new run of B-1s, using modern materials and processes would be a good replacement for the B-52, with the new bomber replacing the B-2…
no need to go all crazy tech for a long range bomber with a long loiter time over a mild to benign air environment. modernised B-1 would fit the bill nicely
Replacing the B-52? But they’ll want a subsonic bird, but i guess supersonic would work. 🙂 But it will be nice if they turned the B-1 into a tanker/spyplane with stealth.

In the case of the Super Hornet vs Flanker I think you have to break it down in three parts. One the capability of the platform (Flight Performance) and two the capability of the total package. (Weapons Systems) I believe purely from the performance stand point the Flanker has the edge. Yet, as a total package (weapon systems) the Super Hornet wins. With the pilot being the deciding factor in the final out come…………….
Flanker has the advantage going faster than super hornet. But in a close range WVR fight it’s unsure who will win. Flanker has short range missiles while super hornet has AIM-9x which is more maneuverable missile than what the flanker has. Super Hornet has JHMCS, while the flanker doesn’t have any helmet cueing which has inferior Helmet systems. Terms of maneuverability there both maneuverable. Weapon loads the Super Hornet. They are both high alpha capable. Super Hornet F model has the GIB to tell the main pilot where to go and where to turn. I can only give this info right now. Then as you all know the super bug has lower RCS than the flanker. But correct me if im wrong but the Flanker has more agility no? But the Super Hornet has far superior avionics than the Flanker.
Conclusion:
There both good WVR fighters but Super Hornet vs Flanker is clearly unsure who will win. They are both capable in sustaining high AOA, maneuverability, but the super hornet has the advantage in killing the sukhoi due to AIM-9x, the powerful APG-79, JHMCS, AIM-120D, and the GIB for dogfight situations. While flanker has the advantage of going faster than the super hornet. Then comes acceleration which the flanker has the advantage again. Flanker accelerates better than the bug, while the bug has a hard time accelerating into transonic speeds. Than the super hornet has the other advantage with the great nose point ability to point the Flanker and shoot it.
Clearly, the Super Hornet made a number of compromises during it’s development. Yet, it’s combination Avionics (AESA Rader APG-79, JHMCS, etc.) plus Advanced Missiles like the AIM-9X and AIM-120D. Have allowed it to stay competitive. Yet, I doubt that will last long before the type becomes obsolete. Which, is why I see the Super Hornet being retired early and replaced by a mix of F-35C’s and possibly the forthcoming UCLASS.
Sad to see the Super Bug going away in 2030? Or 2025? . 🙁 But the Super Bug is staying with the Australia fleet until 2030 Or 2035? I forgot, but i’ll still love the super bug forever. Even the old planes that are getting replaced by the F-35. But mabye the Bug will still be with us flying just like the B-52s and Phantoms. 🙂
I agree with Frank. Viper076 and F-18Growler, i think you two need to slow down and actually read and comprehend what other posters are writing. Nowhere did frank say the Flanker can out turn the hornet. He said out run the hornet and run the hornet out of gas.
And the two of you keep saying the hornet is a superior air superiority fighter. Got proof?
I am unbiased about aircraft and what country they are from. Ive never claimed one aircraft to be better than any other. But with the Canadian’s looking for a new fighter, i hope they don’t go Super hornet.
Trying to sift through this overwhelming barrage of my fighter is the best, its really nerve wracking. There is such an influx of super hornet posts this last little bit… I’m starting to hate the bird!
Then ignore thread! Go to the F-16 thread that viper made or I’ll make a Voodoo thread for you. If you start getting super hornet on your nerves then just stop looking at the thread/my name. So you don’t want the Super Hornet just beacuse we talk to much about it? Problem?
no Greek M2K
What’s Mk2?
[QUOTE=frankvw;2033472]I said outrun, not out turn. Learn to read.
Ok, but there’s no way a flanker can out turn the super hornet. Outrun? Most definitely super hornet may not be the fastest plane in the U.S. arsenal.
