Then why suggest LO weapons pods for any 4/4+ A/C?

It really doesn’t matter as the ship has sailed, I just like to point out that the growth potential for the F-14 airframe was far superior to what we received the the SH. Could it ever have been VLO, no, but could it have been a better match for Su-35 and other 4+ A/C? Hell yes (and you can bet your double hairy palms on that).

F-14 better match for sukhois? You must be a tomcat lover and I’m a Hornet lover. The F-14s maneuverability is not very good in WVR fights. The only thing the Tomcat wouldve been superior is in BVR and interdiction at higher altitude due to longer range. Not to mention the F/A-18F has far more superior maneuverability and is very good in WVR dogfight at slow speed. But Super and Tomcats airframe growth are both superior to. I don’t know why you wine so much. But we all know tomcat has Mach 2 speed but thats not a necessary speed. No aircraft can reach Mach 2 speed for all those idiots who want Mach 2 on Super Hornet. The aircraft mostly reach to Mach 1-1.5 on a battlefield. Only Mach 2 was reached by the Concorde to reach to country’s faster or super cruise to Mach 1. Anyway just to inform you on that. Im not starting a super hornet vs this conversation. I was talking about your wining posts on the thread and I posted a reply on your silly comment on the “JUST NICE PIC THREAD”. Hopefully you can understand more about the Super Hornet.

VFA-103 actually took over VF-84s colours when that squadron was disestablished.

Before that VFA103 was the “Sluggers” from memory.

Great to see Jolly Rogers scheme still in action. Though it did look better on an F-14! :p

The F-14 and F/A-18F both looked awesome with the VFA-103 scheme. 😡

VFA-103 “Jolly Rogers” F/A-18F Super Hornet. It is based on Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia Carrier Air Wing 7

This is one of the most beutiful Carrier schemes ever on a Super Hornet.

There both VERY diffrent models. One is larger and ones smaller. Probobly MIG-35 has more maneuverability and thrust. MiG-35 might have the optional TVC capability. MiG-35 has a larger wing loading than MiG-29 that’s why MiG-35 is bigger. I never noticed that Russian fighters are being oversized. Airline size mabey?

They don’t increase thrust. They make the engine more reliable when it’s hovering. It even helps with control safety by the way. Harriers won’t have thrust increased, it already has thrust Vectoring on previous engines.

That may be the case with your faith but you can’t talk about something you haven’t investigated. Islam is not another version of Christianity or some other “faith” which requires “blind belief” in x, y and z without meaningful proof and evidence. But again, we’re detracting from the forum here, feel free to PM me if you want to continue that conversation.

the person asked favorite aircraft. TWO per Country! you just listed seven for one country.

    following the ops request:

    US: F-14 and A-7
    USSR: Su-35 and Yak-141
    Ukraine: An-70 and An-158
    Commie China: J-31 and JH-7
    Japan C-2 and T-2
Ikea: Tunnan and Viggen (Gripen is really boring)
Great Slavic nation of Poland: w-3 sokol and orlik
Scotland and England: Tornado ADV and Handy J Victor
France: Rafale and Mirage 2000 two seater

Wow seriously? I though this was another “What’s Your Favorite Aircraft” Thread. Anyways I’ll find some country’s who own the Aircraft.

F/A-18 Super Hornet: USA and Australia.

    F-22 Raptor: USA.

AV-8B Harrier II: USA and Spain.

    F-16 Falcon: USA and Northerlands.

    A-4 Skyhawk: USA and Argentina.

    A-7 Corsair: USA and Portuguese.

    A-6 Intruder: USA.

So this is a list that should contain?

Yes I agree with the analogy of the North American F-86 Sabre being a great WVR fighter. But saying this, it was surpassed somewhat by the MiG-17 Fresco, which learnt and adopted the lessons of the MiG-15. I’ve always thought it a great pity that North American Aviation never strived to squeeze similar adaption of it’s F-86 design into a pseudo-like MiG-17, before leaping into their F-100 Super Sabre. I’m of the belief that the F-86 still had plenty of good life in it – especially when considers the hard earned (and ignorant) lessons that had to be re-learnt over the skies of Vietnam!

For me it would have to be the Vought F-8 Crusader. Unfortunately its obscurity outweighed this known trait! I would have loved to have seen the WVR capability of the Vought’s proposed V-1000 derivative of the Crusader (a low-cost, light-weight (having much of its carrier-compatibility accessory’s removed) variant!

Then there is the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon! I credit this design (and the Light Weight Fighter / Air Combat Fighter program it derived from) in not just bring back the realities of WVR into the realms of modern aerial warfare; the USAF’s appreciation of the importance of quantity over quality, hence the designs affordability in numbers it could not achieve or afford in the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle (the then crown jewel of the USAF). It would be the F-16 and its unmatched manoeuvrability to which all fighters were judged by, up until the advent of the Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker!

The Sukhoi Flanker series of heavy weight air superiority fighter. One can not overlook the foresight of TsAGI in collaboration with the Sukhoi Design Bureau’s ability to not just see what a threat their perceived enemy the United States F-15, F-16 and F/A-18 was and had become to the Soviet militaries philosophy. In fact the ever evolving Flanker series would not just match the likes of the F-15/F-16 in raw power-to-weight ratio, and manoeuvrability. It introduced (along with the MiG-29 Fulcrum, a quantitative leap in a complementary weapons/sensor package in the form of helmet-mounted sighting and queuing/a mixture of Vympel R-73 (AA-11 Archer), Vympel R-27 (AA-10 ‘Alamo’) air-to-air missiles/pulse-Doppler radar with track-while-scan and look-down / shoot-down capability and the OLS-27 infrared search and track (IRST).
Add to this the proliferation of sales of this large and powerful fighter, along with the incorporation of even more powerful engines, thrust vectoring and canards in later models of theFlanker series, and in my opinion, it is now the Flanker series by which all other fighter designs are measured and judged!!

    Regards
    Pioneer

    Nice story.

Ok guys thanks, I was wondering why is there such drama on the MRCA Competition. So F-16, F-18, Rafale, Eurofighter, Gripen and MiG are the left over competitors? Or it’s just significantly another kind aircraft?

Recently ate FLANKERs for lunch in the Chinese “Red Flag”.

Funny because the J-17 has 0.95 of T/W Ratio how could the J-17 beat the Sukhois? I think it had a ECM POD attached on the J-17 in order to score. I belive it’s a hoax that in real combat the J-17 will win im positively sure that the J-17 will be scored by the SU-30 or Flankers due to thrust Vectoring and its advanced computers. Pakistan doesn’t have the best technology neither best aircraft. Well it can depend on the pilot.
