You guys make we laugh. Who says the Super Hornet will out perform the F-35??? Yet, when I provide an experts that have access to both aircraft you disregard it out of hand! I provided a quote from a highly experienced Test Pilot. That has thousand of flight hours in the Hornets, Vipers, Raptors, Typhoons, and now the F-35 Lighting. Of course he and Lockheed Martin must be lying??? Funny, why isn’t Boeing lying??? Plus, can anybody provide a source that has access to the F-35 and claims its performance is lower than advertised???
Those are still critical features. When I saw he’s flown Hornets it made me laugh. He hasn’t flown any Super Hornet, but I’m sure that the F-35 outpreforms the F/A-18A/C/D NOT the Super Hornet. The test pilot I think hasn’t flown any 1,000 hours total on all aircraft that’s totally impossible. LM is trying to persuade Costumers to buy the F-35 because none of countries want any F-35’s. I’m sure LM will continue the lies of the F-35’s performance. LM is only advertising the F-35 and making lies that it’s effective in combat. LM hasn’t been so successful making and building the F-35.

Guys what happened?

What competance or capability advantage does the F-18 E/F have that would ensure a mission kill against an F-35?
Be more specific.
The jet is still in Testing, so yes its not operational..The F-35 cannot fire a weapon at this point in time, but we assume that it would be able to or else the Navy would not induct it…
Yes it’s still in testing but the “Pentagon” is complaining about the following things on the F-35.
a Pentagon study team identified the following 13 areas of concern that remained to be addressed in the F-35.
The helmet-mounted display system does not work properly.
The fuel dump subsystem poses a fire hazard.
The Integrated Power Package is unreliable and difficult to service.
The F-35C’s arresting hook does not work.
Classified “survivability issues”, which have been speculated to be about stealth.
The wing buffet is worse than previously reported.
The airframe is unlikely to last through the required lifespan.
The flight test program has yet to explore the most challenging areas.
The software development is behind schedule.
The aircraft is in danger of going overweight or, for the F-35B, not properly balanced for VTOL operations.
There are multiple thermal management problems. The air conditioner fails to keep the pilot and controls cool enough, the roll posts on the F-35B overheat, and using the afterburner damages the aircraft.
The automated logistics information system is partially developed.
The lightning protection on the F-35 is uncertified, with areas of concern.
You develop a fighter to advance your own combat capability, compared to the F-18 and the F-16 the F-35 does so considerably as a weapons systems..The F-35 would bring Stealth, Integrated avionics, Advanced weapons, Active/passive sensors and an amazing MM interface to the table against legacy 4th and 4.5 generation jets…including against the Super Hornet..
So it was not designed as a Multi role fighter? Just because it was not an all out AD Optimized design like the F-22 does not mean it was not designed for air combat. It replaces the F-16 and F-18 the mainstays of the USAF and USN Air warfare fleet. If the F-18E/F is not as or more capable in air combat compared to the F-22 , do we say the F-18E/F is not designed for air combat?
There both designed as Multi-Role Fighters. But the F-35 wasn’t designed to dogfight or have A2A role, but instead the F-35 has both a2g and a2a roles but it’s tasks are more air to ground. The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet were designed for Air-to-Air and Air-to-Ground the Super Hornet is more ADVANCED and larger so it can defend and do many roles that no aircraft can do but the Super Hornet’s tasks are A2A, A2G, and Tanker.
The F-35 brings some advantage in WVR arena, the NG helmet for starters, Its ability to stay LO in BVR giving it potential First shots…Its HMD , DAS Integration…Overall EOTS performance , range etc etc…Thats some capability to try to neutralize…No?
It can’t fight in the WVR because the HMD has problems and it might not have the maneuverability to out maneuver Sukhoi’s in WVR. USAF test pilots have noted a lack of visibility from the F-35 cockpit during evaluation flights and said that this will get them shot down in every combat.
I would not generalize like that, but i agree the F-35 would be HARD to detect without proper support. Couple that with the Integrated avionics, MADL, Passive sensors and performance of the Apg-81 (See the video i posted in the F-35 News thread) i’d say compared to a SH the F-35C would always have a FIRST Look and FIRST Shot in BVR…
No response.
So its outstanding avionics are able to pick a VLO 5th gen jet before that 5th gen jets OUTSTANDING avionics which have a whole spectrum of active/passive options does ? The Apg-81 is a fully brand new radar designed by NG, it combines full integration with EOTS, and DAS that is 360 degrees coverage…Couple that with MADL, and a VLO airframe , the detection advantage would ALWAYS rest with the F-35 much like the F-22 vs Legacy BVR engagements..
Don’t have a response here.
The F-35 has HMD, 9x and DAS which will be an excellent system to have for close combat especially when fighting with wingmen .. Again see how DAS, HMD, is supposed to work in combat for the F-35..
Like i said USAF pilots say theres a lack of visibility from the F-35 cockpit.
According to pilots that tested the F-35 @ High AOA’s they claim that it flies better then the legacy jets in that regime…
No response.
Thanks i fixed it.
