As for the cockpit, without going into specific details, the displays in the current F/A-18C-G fleet aren’t really a problem. Slapping a 79,000,000″ screen into one isn’t really doing anything. In it’s current format, all it does is allow a guy the ability to have all the displays he would normally be looking at in one big screen, plus maybe a few extras that might be cool when they actually represent real technology. I guess there might be some utility to that, but I can think of a lot of other things I’d want to improve beforehand. Sorry if this is really non-specific, but any real discussion would be well outside the realm of an unclassified internet forum.

Ok thanks 35 AoA, really the new cockpit is just a big iPad touch screen with avionics 😀

While many on the forum are enamored with A2A, the primary mission of the CSG (and air forces in general) is power projection and that means dropping bombs. Like it or not, CFTs and pods improve the ability to accomplish the mission infinitely more than EPE.

Uhhhh so does this mean you don’t want the Super Hornet with its INCREASE THRUST?!?!? 🙁 😡 :apologetic: 20% increase is very maneuverable. No offense but you have to be a crazy person or something is wrong with you. 😡 The Pods have to be a later to buy thing while the Navy needs to focus on the important upgrade’s this aircraft needs like we are saying on every reply on this topic.

I would go for the EPE engines and the CFT’s. The upgraded engines would be necessary to help compensate for the increased load the fuel would add. I really don’t see the benefit of stealth weapons pods. Would they make that much of a difference?

I would just upgrade the EPE Engines BUT GUESS WHAT?!? The navy IS NOT upgrading the Super Hornet with the EPE ENGINES can’t you BELIVE THAT?!?!? There focusing on the conformal fuel tanks and a weapon pod. VERY DISAPOINTED with the Navy why is the Navy such lazyholes why do they choose a weapon pod instead of the Super MANEUVERABLE EPE Engine. Really it increases 20% more thrust but well we’ll see what happens in the summer.

EPE. More efficient and it would make the Rhino more akin to a Legacy Hornet. I’ve “flown” the Boeing “next gen cockpit”, and it isn’t that groundbreaking or useful.

So how is the cockpit not useful? Need more info on it. + when it increases 20% more thrust on the EPE Engine it’s not going to be a similar Legacy Hornet. It will be similar to the Sukhoi or Typhoon T/W Ratio then we have the Better Super Hornet with the EPE Engine, JHMD, AIM-9X and APG-79 Radar. Just trying to make the Navy have a good day. 🙂 😮 😀

FWIW nobody refers to the Hornet or Rhino as the “bug”. Not even former Tomcat guys. That said, there are a lot of people with no experience on the internet or airshows that do.

    All.

I hope all US F-18s get the upgrade.

The Growler could really use the new engines due to the draggy pods and the F-22/35 would also benefit from the SWP (Stealth Weapons Pods) development.

Yeah I get you there. Also i remember you Hi there mate. :applause:

This pic is from a website covering the NL’s Sea-Air-Space Exposition this year…I believe Boeing would be taking the sim to the larger European shows as well.. I am not much worried about the Super Bugs A2A ability, the C7/D, JHMC/9x combo coupled with the Apg-79 (Which according to the navy guys is a BRUTE) is more then enough to counter anything for the next couple of decades…I am more interested in the engine fuel eff to bring about greater range and loiter coupled with lowered maintaince costs….The new cockpit especially on the two seaters would enable more efficient control of UAV’s something the USN is looking to task the super bug in the future..

Well with that 20% increase thrust the SuperBug would be better at a2a platform. Then everything would be fine right? This is all i can say now. Here’s a picture with the things the engine would be changed to:

I like them All 🙂 , and they all fall in line with the Navy’s approach of extracting the most capability from the Super bug program. Boeing is delivering it and kudos to them as well. Out of the ones i like the engine upgrades the most followed by CFT’s and then the new cockpit..Whats the most important for the super bug is the NG Jammer but that is being separately being developed for a 2020 IOC.

Attached : The new cockpit demonstrator recently unveiled..

Yeah I like the EPE engine upgrade the most to. It would give the best T/W Ratio up to 11:1 the Super Bug would be comparable to the sukhoi aircrafts. Then the Bug will be very maneuverable with it’s AMRAAM’s AIM-9X’s and be ready for A2A combat with the (Joint Helemet Mounted Display). My chooseful upgrades would be 1. EPE Engine upgrade 2. New 5th gen cockpit 3.IRST POD

Wow where did you get that picture of the new cockpit?

The EPE engines by far for me. It’s already the standard or near the top in most avionics categories but had been a step behind in raw performance due to drag. Conformal fuel tanks and the epe should work great together, as I’m betting the conformal tanks are much less draggy than canted wing pylons/tanks.

Yeah but for me I don’t really like the conformal fuel tanks. I might be a crazy guy but I just don’t have that feeling of like it kind of looks to big and I think the (Conformal Fuel Tanks) is kind of making the Super Bug ugly. Take a look.

    Here’s without Conformal Fuel Tanks.
