    Rest in Peace..

I love “Twelve O’Clock High”, especially the opening scene with the disused airfield coming back to life..been fascinated by disused fields ever since.

It’a a Perfection 1250 I have. It scans one frame at a time for negatives, and converts to positive images, colour or b/w.
I run mine on XP Home and have had no problems with it at all.
I’m not a professional photographer and my needs are modest; it’s perfectly acceptable to me, especially at £100.

    ymmv of course.

    Scanners

Not an expert on photography, but I’ve got an Epson 1250 which gives excellent results, and comes with a couple of plastic gizmos to hold slides and negatives, and an auxiliary light source. The software can scan all of these no problem. All for around £100, probably less now.

Wasn’t it Tim Woodward in the lead role? I remember an episode where he goes down behind the lines, pinches an Eindecker and flys back to base, nearly getting shot down by his own CO in the process.

    timing

At an event at Goodwood racecourse one evening, with the Reds due to display. Walking round the displays, the wife asks when the Reds were due to appear. I said “any minute now, they often arrive from behind the crowd to surprise them” – “like that!” I added, as they arrived right on cue.

2 is an Aerocar, isn’t it? I believe one of these things is actually airworthy in the US.

My house backs on to some open farmland, near the disused airfield at Ford, but there are no active military airfields nearby.
Just happened to look out the back window from the top floor one day and saw a Hercules at low level (500′?) banking left towards me, then right to show me it’s belly. No idea what it was doing or where it was going, Hercs aren’t seen much around here.

Also saw the Grace Spitfire a few times while on Wittering beach, when it was based at Goodwood.

Another event I remember was while playing rugby at the school’s fields at Edgware, an aircraft came over and did a few mild aeros over our heads, and flew away. A friend who was also into aircraft came over and we were both convinced it was a Hurricane. First time I ever saw one airborne, and this was sometime between 1967 and 1970, so warbirds weren’t a common sight then.
