No, you are right, we shouldn’t stop trying. I am not certain that ‘we will never know’. I did write that PROBABLY we will never know.

Bruggen’s unthinking ‘certainty’ is like yours unfounded. If there is anything that is certain about the construction and operation of the Universe it is its uncertainty.

This uncertainty and attendamt contradictions, especially regarding measurement and observation, is perhaps best summarised by the Lorentz/Fitzgerald Contraction. Perhaps the effect of this Contraction is seen only by observers on the Earth. Perhaps observers in some other part of our Solar System or Universe experience different results. One day we might know.

There is much about the way the Universe operates which is inexplicable and I think, is likely to remain so. My personal conviction (qualified) is that we should be careful about applying explanations about the Universe that draw upon our experience of the laws of physics here on Earth.

The laws of physics are the same all over the universe, well except at the event horizon of a black hole where all the laws go out the window, if they weren’t we would not be here having this talk because it would never have formed in the first place. It’s been tested time and time again and always passes those tests, the Lorentz/Fitzgerald length contraction is something Einstein worked out in his theory of relativity dealing with objects travelling at the speed of light, the closer you get to 186.000 Miles per second the shorter that object will appear to an observer watching it go by, but if your in that object you will notice no change, at the speed of light the object will have no length but it will have infinite mass, and that is why a space ship can never go faster than light or even close to it because to get it at those speeds would require near infinite energy, there are people trying to work round this but no luck yet, so there:D

So, they just happened to pick up a cosmic microwave?. and get a Nobel Prize, WOW, what will they get if they can ACTUALLY prove the BB theory?is factual, and undeniably a FACT, something that happened millions of yrs ago.

What a stupid thing to say, so the work of Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson who detected the CBM (cosmic microwave ) radiation in 1964 that is the echo of the big bang, that won them the Noble Prize for Physics in 1978 is b&llsh!t is it. Don’t lose any sleep over it Jim because your in good company on here with people whose religious beliefs will stop them from even checking, because if you don’t check then you can never prove to yourself that your wrong and you can not have that can you.

You need to keep an open mind and do a bit more reading chum before making facile accusations.
Anyway if you are happy with your certainty about something about which we know so little and still have so much to learn, keep your blinkers on and good luck to you.

from apes which is another case of you thinking you know it all, the thing is other people on there are responding to that post as if what you say is true, when a quick Google “Are we descended from Apes”

Don’t bother, your out your depth, I have a big enough book collection, if string theory is proved it does not change how this universe started, how many times do I have to boil this Bl&&dy cabbage.

My knowledge of the ‘Big Bang’ may let me down here but I believe that this theory (not theorem) is based on measuring the speed at which galaxies are moving away from a central point. It is now possible for mankind to measure the speed of these galaxies and their trajectories away from this common central point and so it is also possible, knowing the distance they have travelled, to estimate how long ago the ‘Big Bang’ occurred…

Your not far off, only it started when Hubble found that all the light from distant galaxies is red shifted meaning it’s source is moving away from us but it’s not moving away from one point all the distant galaxies are moving away from each other, because the space between the galaxies is expanding, it’s like a deflated balloon with a lot of dots marked on it, as you blow it up the dots move further away from one another, your last line is absolutely correct
