And it is a great mix, highlight for me was the article on the Vincent and Baffin restorations in New Zealand. Good pics and writting.

Wonder why RAFM decided not to pursue acquisition of the Vincent. IIRC in the AM interview with Ms Appleton it was said to be for conservation reasons but can’t imagine it would be any worse than the Beaufort and P40 acquired through the Tallichet deal. Surely a unique member of the Wildebeest/Vincent family would be welcome despite any shortcomings.

Also interesting that she listed three of the key wants for RAFM as Stirling, Whitley and Hornet.

Interesting delineations between the Perspex and metalwork of the coupe. Is that sealant or poor masking of the outside finish?

    Or is there another reason?

Is the Perspex masked up for painting and the masking paper was just torn to the rough shape and then secured with tape which would account for the rough edges?

Interesting correlation with another Key title Classic Military Vehicles where similar concerns about countless articles on Jeeps and Land Rovers and a general “dumbing down” in recent times have been expressed on HMVF

If in doubt, throw in a Spitfire article……..

Either it shows lazy journalism or a simple lack of other articles. Even though I have taken FP since issue 1, I increasingly find that Aeroplane Monthly is a better and longer read and is beginning to feel a lot like the late lamented Air Enthusiast

Would Critall metal windows have been used overseas or only in the UK?

but any Austin 7 he might have would definitely need a valid MoT certificate if it was going to be driven on the UK roads, although he wouldn’t need to pay Vehicle Excise Duty (‘road tax’) if it was over 40 years old.

Check your facts before you make statements like that!- you dont need an MoT – just need to sign a form V112 and present with your V11 and an insurance certificate at an appropriate PO

The assumption is that owners of vintage vehicles maintain their vehicles to a high standard as part of their ownership and interest in said vehicle.

Was the Saab Lansen the one involved in the Tallichet deal which saw a Spitfire PR19 finding its way into the Swedish Air Force Museum?

Might be worthwhile joining VMARS if you are not already a member

Reevers will help any genuine group to help preserve a warbird, but we know this phase of the politics has been achieved before. When we
see the actions we’ll back up our words with a donation.

So you will now be donating that FN4 turret to Elliott (Whitley Project) for his Whitley rebuild after it failed to sell on Ebay

    That is good to know

Surely the most sensible option would be to procure/build a representative cockpit section with the turret and display it next to the post war variant. With such long service as a fire/bug bomber there must be an appropriate section lying in the long grass at some forlorn tinpot strip.i seem to remember that FAA Avengers also had a different seating arrangement to those in USN service

The EK Hampden originated in Sweden and all the wreckage was first passed to the RAF Museum before moving on the EK. Went to the night taxi/fireworks at EK last weekend and paid my usual annual visit to the Hampden shed. There seemed to have been no progress at all since last year and i wonder if this project is now moribund. I always felt that the EK nose should have joined the mid fuselage at Cosford. It would have considerably expedited the project

Apologies for the thread drift – mods remove if appropriate please

I’m on the lookout for an aerial insulator for the short range B set incorporated in the WS19 wireless set (“19 set”) to assist in the completion of the radio installation in the back of my 15cwt Bedford MWR. I’ve got the B Set aerial mount with its circular cage on four prongs but I need the insulator which fits into it.

    Thanks
